Thanks really enjoyed the video
I have this ruler and love it! Before, my flying geese were always a bit “off”. It really makes sense for me to make the blocks a bit oversized and trim down. The trim tool really helps line up the geese properly.
Thanks Sherri. I appreciate your excellent teaching skills.
Thank You 😊
I vote next year's block of the month does different geese techniques each month
My LS recommended this ruler today, but I wanted to check off some videos before I pay it. You were my first stop, glad you had it on your channel.
Thank you for sharing this information with us! There are so many rulers on the market and sometimes it’s not easy to determine which is the best purchase. Whether you are short on storage space or just wanting to stretch your quilting cash as far as possible. This ruler seems to accomplish both!
I absolutely love this tool. Perfect geese everytime.
I bought this ruler about 6 months ago and now I love to make flying geese. They all come out perfect.
Great tutorial! As a beginning quilter, I had given up on flying geese, but now I will give them another try. Thank you!

don't give up on flying geese! i get such satisfaction when i get them right - one of the many joys of quilting :) (bloc loc user, also excited to try this one)
Oh Sherri, I am so glad to find this! I just bought this ruler and really wanted to find one with so many sizes since less is more in my book. I hope it will be my go to ruler now.
Thank you Sherri, I just purchased this from FQS, and this video helps me quite a bit!!!
Thank you Sherri!
I love Creative Grids rulers. I have several, not this one yet, but I intend to get it. Your demo has convinced me! Their rulers are so versatile and most of them have multiple uses, or at least multiple sizes for the same block, such as the Pineapple rulers. If you want accuracy in your blocks, Creative Grids can't be beat.
Looks like a great tool. Patterns that have flying geese always seem to be my favorite probably because I love stars. Thank you for the demo!
Thank you! I have that ruler, but as a new quilter, I’ve been struggling with it. I think my problem was that I could not find the measurements that I needed printed on the ruler. Now I realize that I was searching for unfinished measurements, when I should have been using finished measurements. Thanks so much for a great tutorial! Quilting is my brain challenge….for my 70 yr old brain. Certainly learning new things!!! Yay!
Love your new cabinet behind you. It looks like a pantry stocked full with fabric.
Thanks. Making them now! Will order ruler right now. So helpful.
Thank you so much Sherri ~ for sharing this ruler with all of us. I am purchasing the ruler today to use for all of the future roof/sky pieces on my tiny house blocks. So excited about this!
Great tutorial! I always forget about this method and have a border of flying geese to make, so this is perfect timing ❤️
Thank you for showing us how to use this ruler!
Great tutorial! After the Patreon zoom meeting I went to the local quilt shop and ordered it. After seeing this video I’m definitely glad I did. Thank you Sherri
Thank you for get Ruler Flying Geese ! Very helpful
I was just gifted this ruler. I get it now (at least this one way of doing it). Thank you.
I so appreciate you sharing tools and ideas that can help all of us. Please keep doing these videos. I am also a Patreon subscriber. I watch all of your videos.
I love this ruler and it’s the only thing I use now. I appreciate your great tutorial. One of the things I really like in addition to its accuracy is that the cutting measurements are printed directly on the ruler, because it seems easy for me to not have the directions at hand when I need them.
Thank you so much for sharing this with us. It looks like a wonderful tool. You are so sweet. I always enjoy your tutorials! I’ve learned so much from you! Thanks!
I’m glad I watched this video. I didnt realize there were instructions and I had to dig them out of trash.
Thank You…There are so many different tools out there and it is hard to decide which ruler or tool that I would find more helpful than another. Trying them out can be expensive, too. Sometimes when I finally take the plunge and buy a tool/ruler to help me with my quilting process, I then cannot figure out how to use the item properly. Your informative videos are very helpful with my quilting tools/ruler problems. Thank you for taking the time and effort to give us the information we need to be successful quilters and to help make the process more enjoyable. 🪡🧵
What a lifesaver and timesaver! Thank you 💓
Great video. Thank you for sharing this with us. Very helpful and informative ❤️
Such a great tutorial! Thanks so much. I need this ruler!!!
Thanks, Sherri. It is great to know how this new ruler can be used!
This is one of my favorite rulers! I almost always use it for flying geese!
I have enjoyed my Creative Grids flying geese ruler, but now I want that light blue cutting mat on your cutting station. I have the dark blue mat too, but find it hard to cut dark fabrics.
Thank you Sherri for the demonstration, I appreciate your time. I’ve never purchased a specialty ruler but I like to see how they work.
Excellent video! I always learn so much from your videos.
I love using this tool!
I agree! I love this ruler and have used it during the Moda Blockheads challenge a lot
Got my Flying Geese ruler today! I have made FG blocks with this method before BUT they came out much nicer with this ruler. Its much easier to line them up and I love that the sizes are printed on the ruler. Thanks for sharing Sherri! I got ruler just in time to make the new June block in your BOM. :)
Great tutorial!! Seems like a big time saver!!😍
Thanks! That looked so easy.
Looks like maybe you trimmed down to the next size down from the first one? I think that's why someone commented about all the waste fabric. Still, that's a good example of how it works and what to watch for. I like getting 4 flying geese for sawtooth stars.

Based on the mat markings, the FG is 3x6 v. 2x4 which was trimmed (good eye)

Cool rule.
I have this ruler, but haven't used it. Your demo is awesome. Thanks
❤ I love the idea of the ruler, just not how much waste there is.😢

Not much if you cut it the proper size, the 3 were, I think, cut smaller than the 1st shown, so shows a bit of waste
Absolutely well explained . Thank U
Perfect timing, Sherri. I have Creative Grids' Flying Geese Ruler. However, I have not used it yet. So, your tips were very helpful. Thank you!
Thank you 😊 I love creative grid rulers
Another awesome video and chat! Thank you for posting this!
Thank you for sharing ! Great tutorial!
I like this ruler too for making flying geese. It isn’t so left handed friendly though as the cut is on the top and the right hand side. I compensate by lining up the ruler then spinning it around to cut on the left hand side. I did request Creative Grids create a left handed version of this ruler. They have created other left handed rulers…this one I would really like. Thanks for reminding me that the one at a time cutting instructions are in the ruler instructions.
I finally got ordered one!
Love this ruler. Thank you for demonstrating it. Have a great day. 🥰🧵🪡
Love this! Thanks so much for your helpful videos. :)
Thanks Sherri😊
Thank You For Sharing Sherri, I appreciate a good, helpful too. 🥰 Chris P.S. Have a Wonderful Holiday Weekend.
Thank you. Very informative video.
Thank you for sharing!!! I love all your simplified ways to measure. Its a life saver for a rookie like me. Also, I keep eyeing your pin cushion & thread catcher on your right side. Do you have a pattern for that? I love the design on the top. I am just now building needed items in my new sewing room. I have threads everywhere!!! Thank you for sharing!!
Very helpful! Thank you
Sherri, you might want to put an updated note in your description. It appears (from your mat) that you are making a 3x6 unit but are trimming (and stating) 2x4 which makes it appear that there is far more waste than is typical for these rulers. I love this method (I like to call it the little foxes method!) due to its speed and accuracy. I use another tool, with excellent results. I like to glue baste my small squares in on the diagonal of the large square. It works well for high production (and distortion/shift/prick- free sewing). YOu can phase your work without your units getting stuck together and the pieces staying put.
I was surprised by the amount of waste. I’ve used Eleanor Burns’s flying geese rulers for this method of making flying geese for about 20 years. They work perfectly, and there’s no way to accidentally cut on the wrong line. The drawback is that each ruler is for just two sizes.
Thank you! I’ll be purchasing this ruler. A suggestion if you don’t mind: would really love closeups of your process, for example, the pencil lines drawn on each side of the center. Thanks again!
Thank you ! I am going to try this
How did you know I was trying to learn this just last night? Thank you for your tutorials :)
Thank you for demonstrating this ruler I purchased one a while ago but wasn’t sure how to use it 😊
Thank you for this great ruler but I was wondering do you have to buy more material than what the pattern suggest just need to know for someone that is not a professional quilter
Have you used the Wing Clipper for flying geese? Just wondering how they compare
Thank you
It seems a awful lot like Deb Tucker’s Studio 180 Wing Clipper who also uses the method you showed. She also has you make it a little bigger and then trim down.
Excellent tutorial - thank you - and it does look efficient, however, there seems to me to be an awful lot of waste!

I think Sherri mixed up the sizes and trimmed away too much. If you look closely you see how the three Flying Geese are smaller than the one she prepared beforehand.
I love this ruler! I got it a few months ago for quilt I am making now❤️ It may be my eyes or the angle of the camera but it looks like the three you cut out on camera are smaller than the sample of the forth…..😊

Sherri I bought this ruler and I wonder if you could make more videos using this flying geese ruler. There are a lot of marking and I am not sure if I am using it right. Thank you for all the help you give to us.
I bought that same ruler to work on a BOM, that I singed up for. The pattern says to make a 2.5” x 4.5” flying geese block. The ruler doesn’t have a 2.5 x 4.5 finished size. Using that ruler, can I make it to finish 2.5 x 4.5” flying geese block. Can you help me figure it out???
I'm loving this. Question, I'm left handed are there measurements for the "trimming" on both sides? Or is this a right handed tool? Not unusual if it is, I can usually adjust but SUPER handy if I don't have to. Thanks in advance!
My daughter avoids quilts with flying geese. She hates them. I think this would help her alot!
I need that ruler
Hi Sherri, can you please post a link to the ruler you use to draw the lines on the squares? Thanks!!
Can you tell me what quilt sew along Lisa Bonjean is doing?

That's one thing I've noticed about Sherri she never replies to questions. I asked why was there a need to agree to cookies to visit her website of course she didn't have the courtesy to reply. Clicking on cookie can lead to hacking. I unsubscribed.
Can this method still be done using the quilt in a day ruler ?
@notesfromleisa-land
Жыл бұрын
The quilt in a day ruler is slightly different in its approach (I prefer this method over that). You should follow the instructions on the QID ruler. I have that ruler (bought early in my quilting journey). I use it for other things, but NEVER flying geese after adopting this method.
my instructions say 2.5" x 4.5" flying geese "unfinished". So if I trim down to 2x4 using this tool I will be too short with the rest of the pieces. I am making a sawtooth star. I guess I'm so confused on when to trim.
@catecoleman9852

2x4 written on the ruler is the finished size. So yes if you want a 2.5x4.5 you use that marking when trimming. They account for the seam allowance. Make a sample and measure it after so you can cut confidently :)
Thank you I did not want to buy the lock block! Due to price and so many rulers sizes due to small storage!
I've been using Deb Tucker's Wing Clipper for many years. Creative Grids seems like a knock off of Deb's. Hers is perfect!

The Wing Clipper rocks. I have that as well. CG also has many short cut rulers---some of which I own and enjoy (but have many of Deb's)
Has anyone tried pressing the seams open when using this ruler?
Do you think that there is more waist with this ruler I guess I worry more about waste?
@notesfromleisa-land
Жыл бұрын
She is trimming using 2x 4 measure when the unit (per the ruler mat grid markings) is a 3x6
What size was the square piece of cloth?
It seems like a waste of fabric with all of the trimming. Would I just start with smaller squares if I didn't want to lose that much fabric?
Camera should’ve been looking down from the top
woman - really, YOU ARE SUCH AN ENABLER. . . . 🤣
Great tutorial, thank you sharing!
