Ian do you sell the cross star filter? I haven't found one at my nearby Telescope shop, or Amazon. BTW- I used my SharpStar2 last week. I didn't get it to work like it should have, but I could easily tell when I was in focus. It cut my set up time in half! THANK YOU!

Good to know man! Have followed you since I started astrophotography, thanks for all the inspiration. Could you make a video about how to align several milky way raw, and the things need to notice to get the best result. e.g. merging 10 vertical raws into 1. Thanks!!!

First of all, thanks for sharing this content. I noticed that you have diferent masks based in your focal distance. I succeed to recognize 85mm and 100mm. What is your experience using masks in wide angle lenses?

Can you say something about how to use this with a nikon d3300 and a 35mm1:1.8 prime lens? I can find any mounting tools that look like they would work with my rig.

Hi Ian, Was wondering if you have a solution that will stop a lens from frosting on its front glass during star time laps Shots. I am frustrated that my last 2 attempts have only captured 1 hour of usable images and the rest are like a cancer growth on the image until it has covered the whole image. I am in the southern hemisphere and I usually shoot around midnight till 4 am. But after 1 hour, the lens has light frost on the ctr of glass and it grows with time. (caused by mist and dew) In summer night here not winter. won't attempt it in winter until i can find a solution. Oh btw...its external not internal. I can wipe it down.

+Ange Cotta - I have suffered the same problem many times and share your frustration. Astrophotographers use a product that heat their telescopes and lenses. They're sold under a series of brand names, "Dew Not", "Thousand Oaks" to name a few, but they are rather pricey. One practical DIY way to get around this issue with minimal cost is with a dew shield. You can construct one out of cardboard. do a quick google on "dew shield", it should be pretty self explanatory. It isn't as good as the "lens heating" method, but can extend your shooting for several hours.

Best and most cost effective solution is to simply put a couple of hand warmers around your lens. I attached them via an elastic and works wonders. I find that I need to affix two of them for optimal effectiveness.

You'll need a square filter holder and the respective filter thread adapter for your lens filter thread.

Hi Ian, you know I think it's great that you make these nice things for us to use with our AP, but is there any chance you could make something to get rid of these fu%&ing clouds from the UK so I can get out there and do some AP, lol. ps, good luck with your new project.

Hi Ian, just received the sharp star filter in the mail. The so called backing paper behind the sharp star filter is very difficult to remove and there is no plastic case to hold the filter either. The Pure Night Filter doesnt have a backing paper and I could use it rightaway. I am disappointed.

cecilia hung Our materials and processing for manufacturing the SharpStar2 are very different than the PureNight and require that we ship SharpStar2 with the paper backing. Use your fingernail to lift an edge and then peel. Leather cases are separately available for purchase with the SharpStar2 at lonelyspeck.com/sharpstar. We have a 100% guarantee on our products so if you feel that it is still not meeting your needs, please email us at lonelyspeckblog@gmail.com to set up a return for refund.
