@@Canipeks this tool is a rotary tool used for cutting out drywall. A multi tool is an oscillating tool that is typically used for cutting wood, nails etc. it is for those hard to reach areas . it also can sand and do a lot more. i use them once and a while to cut drywall if i'm renovating but mostly I use it to cut wood and sand wood.

@@hammerandhome thanks for the tip, however I'm planning to purchase one of these but as I already have a multi tool, didn't know whether this drywall tool would be something extra as I wouldn't need it because I'm using the multitool that does the same job. P.S I guess it really depends on personal choice too at the end of the day what you do and so on forth.
I love mine, I have used it for doing around framing for windows, basic sheet rock, I have even used it for inside and outside corners of Cove Vinyl, and switching rollers on Vinyl window sashes when the operation was wrong.
Nice review. I think to help beginners you should stress the use of the depth guide bracket that you kept on the other tool. It keeps the beginner from going too deep into the box (away from the wires) as well as it will keep you from getting hung up on the other edges around the electrical box. You just adjust the guide to just a little wider than the thickness of the drywall. Thanks for helping out dude.

Good video. I got one of these in a bundle, was trying to figure out used for it. If this is all it does. Seems like a giant, noisy, messy, tool to replace a small hand held drywall saw.
Thanks Brad. The tutorial was great.

ty very much for the info
I like it always doing odd jobs around house .I'm s roofing contractor and DeWalt is and always been a great tool. Put a roof on today with there 20 volt roofing gun and I love that gun
Is this "drywall cutout tool" the same as a Rotozip or any other brand of rotary cutout tool/spiral saw, or is it a "lite" version only recommended for low resistance material like drywall? Maybe a trim router would be more functional for cutting wood, or is this strong enough? Thanks, Tony.
Great review.
thanks for sharing. awesome..
Great video. Found this while viewing your drywall screw gun video (great video as well) Can you use the same technique for wood paneling? I've had to do a few remodels with paneling and spent way too much time cutting out the boxes and switches.
@hammerandhome

thank you! I wouldn't recommend this tool for wood paneling, a small trim trim router with a tracing bit would work best
*THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!* 3:17 As an Electrician, there is NO reason you should be inside the box. I've yet to have job where the drywaller didn't hit a wire or miss cutting out a box. I've known electricians that have heated all their boxes up before drywall, hoping for sparks to fly. Also, stop cleaning your knife off in a box. Peeps always crack wise about the feud twixt Plumbers and Electricians. I think it's Drywallers that irritate us the most.
What are the differences between the pits? When I got mine it came with 2 different ones

Does this only work with drywall or can you use it on other material?
Thanks for the help locking this bit I to the tool😅
Hi Brad, nice video.....for newbs, would it useful to use the Cut-out tool’s depth guide so that they don’t get hung up on the electrical box metal bits that are a bit deeper? I have the corded De Walt DW660 and I find the depth guide set at drywall thickness plus 1/4” is very helpful to stop me from getting hung up and I seem to get clean cuts from it.....

How does it do with the ends of the cut? Does it create burs

No prob. It definitely takes a bit of getting used to.
Can’t go wrong with dewalt I bought the screw gun and router kit and got a extra router for free and two 2 ah batteries and a super charger for a little under 300.00 and there still running strong after 3 years
I mostly use the oscillating multi tool for the same purpose. haven’t ran into a situation where I would need this tool

Me too, though I’m contemplating buying this tool because of speed but also because the drywall dust gets inside the oscillating tool - I’m worried about ruining it.
Will this work on plastic electric boxes?
That’s great when you have an object to trace but how do you freehand cut in the middle of a hollow section? I can’t keep it straight….

Can you do a video of that joist drill using it to mix concrete?

I don’t understand why clamping it down caused the blow-out. Can you explain a bit further. Enjoy yours vids. Thx. Might buy this tool. Dewalt!!!
@hammerandhome
3 жыл бұрын
no prob, the clamp is to simulate the drywall being screwed down to close to a cutout, this will put pressure on the drywall and when you do a cut, the closer you get to the end of your cut the drywall will give and potentially break, like it did in the vid. hope that helped
Surely plastic back boxes don’t work for this?

So it doesn't come with depth guide.... I'm new at using one....The tapers hate me....maybe not in two years or so....
Why not just leave the depth gauge on and take away all the unnecessary guess work as to wether you are too deep or not and risk damaging the electrical wires? Makes more sense IMO.
