How to use Microsoft Lists

Microsoft Lists is officially out. In this video, we’ll cover how Lists works and how it relates to some of the other apps in Office 365, especially SharePoint, OneDrive for Business, and Microsoft Teams. Microsoft Lists is the upgraded version of SharePoint lists, now with a much slicker-looking user interface, pre-built templates, and a central home for all your lists.
Note: Microsoft reported 50% rollout of Microsoft Lists to targeted release users on Aug 21 and an estimated completion by end of August (source: jum.to/3hwwU8a). Rollout to all other users will commence thereafter with estimated completion by end of September. If you don't see Lists in your Office 365 app launcher, follow these steps: jum.to/Microso...

If you have questions about future features: well, we're not the ones who know. Instead, try going to aka.ms/MSLists... and @mentioning Mark Kashman. He's been responding to a lot of questions and feedback.

    I tried to use the templates today and customize / format the columns but quickly found out that it was difficult. Specifically the visual aspect that is in the demos. If you don’t know JSON then it’s almost better to just stay in Excel. I hope they make the stying easier or I think I will look elsewhere. Would love to hear your thoughts. We need a simple way to make these lists visually interesting.

    Suspect for a while making the most of a customized list will be a task for a power user. Hopefully more out-of-the-box features will come in the future.

    Thank you for the informative videos? I just happened upon your channel and like what you have to say, and how you say it. You mention in the video "depending on whether your want to manage 'lists' or 'tasks' ... " would you explain what you mean? In your opinion, what Is the difference between a list and a task? We appreciate your insight. Gus PS - and heres a shot in the dark . . . Do you or anyone else, know how to sort a bucket in planner alphabetically?

    I get lost at 3:15 when you're adding the list to the Home page. My SharePoint looks nothing like this. I do not see a way to embed a list view, only a card for the list itself.

    This was a standard SharePoint team site in SharePoint Online (Office 365). Not sure what your environment is using, so I can't speculate. But Lists integrates with SharePoint Online automatically (being basically part of SharePoint Online).

    I'd like to migrate off of SmartSheet. My #1 need is to collaborate on a record. SmartSheet enables us to have a conversation thread and Attachments on each record. Will Lists be my answer? Or any other MS product? I need a simple Request list for clients to answer.

    Lists comes with comments per item but not exactly sure how feature-rich they are. Might also be some way to chat in a Team about an item, but that’s just speculation. Watch Microsoft’s “First Look” video on KZread overviewing it. (You’ll find it if you search that term.)

    Hi Matt I'm trying to solve as problem I've found with Lists and just can't find any info on this and wondered if you knew the answer. When I create a list I do not get the options to change to view of the list to be a calendar view. I've made sure there is a date field in my list. I have used some of the templates that include dates as well as starting a new list with just one date field. The only views I get are List, Compact List and Gallery. My M365 administrator can't see that its a backend setting and all the help doco and videos I've found just have the option there! Appreciate any advice you might have.

    You want to switch the list to Gallery View, which displays your info as cards. From there you can add images using the tile designer. (I know, they use "gallery", "card", and "tile" all within the same experience...) Not sure if cards have rolled out yet. If not, be patient. Here's a quick how-to overview from Microsoft (starts at 9:42): kzread.info/dash/bejne/oqCnyrOMn8jFf7w.html

    Hi Matt, Kind of basic question - so, could we technically create a Microsoft List and use this as a backed for any forms- say a power app and then probably have them both on a Teams channel as tabs?

  • @thatmattwade

    @thatmattwade

    4 жыл бұрын

    Yep, definitely. The same way you'd use a SharePoint list for that info before (because a Microsoft List *is* a SharePoint list). That said, Lists may not be the *best* place to store the info if your aim is for high-quality database management (look up CDS or Dataflex for other options). But if you want to be able to share the info easily as a tab in Teams, then definitely use a Microsoft List for it.
