How To Use Focusrite Control - A Basic Rundown and Quick Start Guide

Музыка

In this tutorial, I give a basic rundown of Focusrite Control. Focusrite Control is the software that comes with all Focusrite audio interfaces. To get the most out of your Focusrite interface it's a good idea to have a good basic understanding of what Focusrite Control is and what it does. If you're new to using any kind of audio gear it may feel a bit daunting to learn... and opening the manual might even make those overwhelming feelings worse. So in this video, I go through the various sections of Focusrite Control and explain a bit about each. This video is not meant to be a deep dive but rather a quick start guide to get you using Focusrite Control and your Focusrite interface as soon as possible. I hope you find this tutorial helpful!

Excellent explanation of the the software and I've had a hard time finding a good tutorial on how to set up output routing. I have a Clarett 4Pre and have not been able to figure out how to reamp by sending audio to output 3. Based on your tutorial, I think I understand how to do so. Nice work and thank you!

18:30 - So I just got the 18i20 and for now plan to use it in standalone mode to mic all my drums and output everything to line 1-2 which will then go to another drum interface w/ midi (Yamaha EAD10) and then from there to my PC. So basically for each line output would need to change custom mix to playback 1-2? It'll just be sent as stereo which is fine. I talked to their customer service and they did say this is possible and that settings in this control panel will save to Focusrite's memory. Just wanted to confirm this is how to do it.

Hi and thanks for the video. Where can I download this controller? Looks like they removed it from the Focusrite website. I have two Focusrite Pro 40s that I want to link together. Thank you, Jamie :)

Hey Jamie, if you’re looking to get Focusrite Control….go to the Focusrite site-->scroll all the way to the very bottom--> click downloads--> select whichever model/generation you have and you should find the DL links. 👍👍👍 - BUT….if by ‘Focusrite Pro 40’ you mean Sapphire Pro 40, it looks like you can just click on the Sapphire models and find the Pro 40 from there. At that point, you’de be using something called Sapphire Mix Control instead of what I’m using, Focusrite Control. I hope this helps, let me know!

Hey! I'm using a 3rd generation interface but it looks like your 2nd generation will also work with Focusrite Control :). 1st generation users are out of luck with FC but seems to use something called 'Scarlett Mix Control' instead. Here is the link where I found that info: support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/articles/115001661729-No-Hardware-Connected-or-No-Hardware-Detected#:~:text=Please%20note%2C%20Focusrite%20Control%20will,Scarlett%20Solo%2C%202i2%20and%202i4

@@deepzepp4176 ok yea, just looked at the manual for your 2nd Gen 2i2. Seems like there's no software download at all...only if you use a windows computer would you have to install drivers...on a Mac, nothing to download...just plug and play basically and your computer would automatically recognize it. I think since it's a pretty basic model interface FR didn't find it necessary to include any software for routing.

😂…well, you could just plug and play as long as you’ve installed it and not worry too much about the extra stuff. This vid is really for those who want to get a basic working knowledge of FC and get the most out of their interface. 👍👍👍

@@ThisIsTorch ...and this is an unfortunate little detail that is left out of the videos I've seen on FC... --that if you are using it in a home studio with a DAW and outboard gear/mics/instruments/etc, you dont really need it. If anything, you need to mute it so you arent getting duplicate signals from this AND your DAW. No wonder people hate this program. It provides functionality that the target market doesnt need... who is using this in a million dollar studio w/a separate control room? Any podcasters using this for their show? Is this a go-to option for streamers? I don't know, but I would think there are better options for all three, and that most people use it for home studio, in which case you they dont really need any of this. But figuring out you dont need it was difficult for me, because no one really explains anything beyond menu functionality and mixer presets. After watching half a dozen videos I was still scratching my head wondering why I need a mixer program when Ive got gain knobs on the interface and a mixer in my DAW. So if anyone reading has the same question, the answer is: you dont. Make sure you output to DAW and mute everything else.

@@kitchenspider I hear ya brother. I can see how all this would seem like overkill or unnecessary in an actual studio situation…Again, this vid is for people, most likely indie musicians, who want to get the most out of their FR interface. I can tell you my personal reasons for getting the model I got as well as needing to understand the software…and the reason is, I am a drummer and producer working independently looking for lots of inputs and outputs for recording on a budget (as well as live performance - I do a lot of triggering using Ableton Live so outputs are a must) for various indie projects etc. So for anyone like myself who needs all the stuff to accomplish the job, it isn’t overkill but totally necessary. Simpler models have too many limitations for what I’m personally trying to do. Understanding the software becomes fundamental for my personal usage and FC helps give lots of flexibility in terms of routing while using a DAW in both home recording and live performance…and if you understand how to use it, you can absolutely mute things as needed. Hence why I created the video to help others who are looking to either do similar things or just simply want more understanding of the software. In the end it’s all about your personal use case. Anyone running a million dollar state of the art recording studio is not likely to use these interfaces, let’s be honest.
