The large C shape pitman arm puller is brilliant on heavy four wheel drive joints. Just wind the pressure screw tight, tap the end with a hammer, and continue until the joint breaks free. Where this is too large, the smaller pitman arm puller works the same way, on a smaller scale.
This ball joint separator uses a lever action - getting right into difficult areas. The removable hinge pin can be repositioned for a greater jaw width if necessary. Then just slip the jaws beneath the ball joint - and wind up the pressure screw to separate the joint.
The L shape ball joint remover is great for the smaller tie rod ends. It offers a unique angle and compact size for those tricky areas. Simply wind back the pressure screw, slip the fork under the ball joint; and tighten the pressure screw until the ball joint pops.
To remove the largest tie rods, or even pull inner bearing races free; pick the outer tie rod puller. This tool is similar in design to the C shape pullers, but its pivoting arms provide the most flexibility of any item in the kit.
