You should contact with HP care, they will upgrade without losing the warranty, and my suggestion is upgrade to more 8 GB not 4GB, it will be cheaper....

How to do I find the perfect ram for my laptop

Go to task manager (ctrl+shift+esc) go to performance and then select the Memory tab Then see what kind of Ram it has if it has My laptop had Sodimm type which means DDR4 You can google the alphabets that come up to show what type of ram you need It also shows how many empty ram slots does your Motherboard have You can also Open up the Back panels and take out the ram and see what type it is If it has pc-3 written on it then it’s DDR3 and if it is pc-4 written on it is ddr4 Sometimes there’s straight away written if it’s ddr3 or ddr4 Also check id There is any ending Letters at the end of the ram like U,V,S etc which stand for how much voltage they take But mostly all rams works just fine if they are of the same time (i.e ddr3 or ddr4 respectively) so alphabets don’t matter just to be on the safer side
