Sounds like a massive upgrade ! lol i have same laptop, how does it work with 16GB? Also it seems like it comes with a small 60GB ssd... can i upgrade hard drive too ?

i am not even close to being computer technical but with you video i watched and went step by step and so happy to DIY. my only problem was when i opened it up i realized it was only one slot for the Ram. i needed to have the one piece of 16gb instead of the 8x2 Gb kit. i didn’t even feel bad because i knew i could exchange out on amazon and go back thru with steps from your video. I really appreciate you taking the time to do this video.

Thank you , Todd. I have a similar-type HP laptop (model 17-g119dx) - about 7 years old - but did not see any obvious way to access the RAM (a door or port). Your video answers the query on how to access the innards, so I'll give it a shot. I had a local store upgrade the RAM from 4GB to 8 a few years ago, but would like to upgrade to 16 (the max this model can hold). The laptop runs the components of an observatory (mount, cameras, focusers, etc.), so every bit of RAM will help, I think. Thanks again for a very well-done and easily-explained video. - Steve

Did you experience any boot up or lag issues after upgrading the ram in this laptop? I have this same laptop and am hesitant to upgrade based on some reports of boot up issues and lagging issues.

I am assuming if you replace the ram the laptop has to fully reset to get used to the ram but then eventually it should just work also check if you got the correct memory.

No...I used a small magnetic phillips and a straight. you can separate the main part with anything like a guitar pick, credit card, etc...

@@onekoolmario1343 im pretty sure with 16GB ram you can have as many intenet tabs as you want to use all the RAM 4GB is very low.... windows uses like 2-3GB off the bat

I have the same red laptop from Walmart and I too changed it from 4 to 16. And now it doesn't display anything on screen. So I put the original ram stick back in and still doesn't display anything. I'm lost now

Remove the ram, disconnect battery, hold power button for 30 seconds, then try it again. Sometimes it may take awhile for it to boot...be patient

It can run some early games that don't take a lot of ram. Mine is 4GB and it can play a beefy old game like Sims 3 with no problem for ex. If it's an older game, it likely works since that means it was made for non-powerful computers at the time.

The laptop used in the video only has one ram slot. Usually, newer model laptop havr 2 so to add a 2nd ram you should have the same ram generation as the current ram installed in your laptop (if the installed one is ddr3 you should buy another ddr3 for expansion) but i recommend to replace the older generation ram and buy 2 newer ones like ddr5 or ddr4
