Remember to hold on to some metal so you can disperse any static charge built up on you to avoid frying the ram stick.

Geek Squad is a total ripoff. They were trying to charge me 50 dollars to install a new SSD and RAM.

So after opening the back, I saw that my second ram slot has no tabs to lock it in place. Does this mean I can only use one slot? Sorry for the late comment.

note some laptops dont has memory door some laptops have non memory door which you can upgrade just has to take out the whole bottom part of laptop like mine is hp gaming pavilion and i has to take whole bottom off to access memory it varies from laptop to laptop just to note on that!

This was very helpful. I like the link you posted. I will look into this. I have an old (Lenovo Thinkpad W500). I got it from a Second hand store. I know I can add Ram. Take out the Disc drive. Put an SSD adapter in it’s place. But the CPU is the one. That has been bugging me. I know it has an old 2 Core. But how high can I go. Before the Laptop. Can’t run it any more. Now with your link. ESD is not good for RAM. Suggest to get greater understanding and details: Google using keywords: electro-static discharge

thank you so much sir i am going to upgrade my laptop ram for sure. i could get a gaming pc right now but i need to finish college first i have 1 year left but even then the pc prices are too high right now and my friends are telling me not to do it. one thing is i have amd radeon graphics card and it have very low vram. i also have amd ryzen 5 so im hoping that can run a game like rust with 20gb ram... i also have only 120gb ssd so i might upgrade that im storing all my games on external hard drive i will see if its possible.

I did the crucial scan and I got "no system match was found" lol 🙃

According to ASUS support website your memory spec for X540up is: DDR4 2133MHz SDRAM Onboard Memory (non-removable) and 1 x SO-DIMM socket for expansion, up to 16 GB SDRAM.

Can I just add another stick of 8gb ram or do I have to buy a whole other 16gb set of two sticks?

Does the new ram has to be the same speed as your current ram speed? I have 8gb 2666 ddr4 but can I buy 2400? as they are cheaper.

The speed does not need to match. However, all of the RAM speed will downgrade/run at the lowest RAM speed that is installed in your system. In other words, if you install the RAM 2400 then the existing 8gb 2666 ddr4 will run at 2400 too.

in your next video can you add bookmarks at the bottom or you can put time stamps in the descrition as I already know how much ram my laptop has and would like to skip seeing how much ram I have

Not all laptops/desktops support that RAM speed. Your computer will only run at the max RAM speed it supports.

The memory stick and its place kind of remind me of a cassette player. Is there a way to tell how many memory slots your laptop has before opening it up? I'm not sure but I believe my new laptop has room for a second memory stick. I plan on sooner or later buying this cheap 20$ memory stick for an extra 4GB ram.

4GB if you have a 2nd RAM slot open and available. Or replace the 4GB stick with a 8GB stick if you only have a single RAM slot.

can you show us on how to install the sata connector on that laptop acer? i have the same models as this video but i want to put my extra 1tb hdd but i dont know how to install the sata connector first

If you only have one RAM slot and you want to upgrade to your MAX RAM that is allow with your laptop, then you will have to take a lost of the the RAM that is presently used in the one RAM slot you have available. In other words, you can replace existing RAM stick with a higher RAM stick size if your laptop MAX is not already reached with your existing RAM stick.
