edit: Supposedly you need to have completed all 3 Overthrows at least once before the wizards will spawn, so give that a try. Thanks to @TheRealGutty for this suggestion, it seems to have helped. A lot of reports from people saying the Wizards aren't spawning for them. Are you seeing the text at the bottom right "A Secret-Keeper of the Witch Queen is near..." after defeating the final boss? If so, there's a chance that maybe it appears in different locations on the map, so search around the area. I checked with a lot of other people and all of them appeared in the same 3 locations I showed in the video, but maybe it's just a coincidence. Other than that, maybe there's another per-requisite for it that's tied to post campaign quests or progression.

@@edwxrddd I'm not quite sure sorry. Maybe there's some sort of post-campaign progress that is also needed to unlock this. Have you completed all of the post-campaign quests? Additionally, maybe it's bugged out via the matchmade version of Overthrow. Are you doing them solo, or are you using the matchmade version? Other than that I'm not too sure, hard to know unfortunately

Not a full fireteam. It has to be 2 ppl. We had 3 and it wouldn’t let us in. It’s called “Dual Destiny” for a reason I guess lol.

Thank you for making this guide. I knew I should have waited for yours to come out. I heard some rumors online that you had to do all three overthrows. I did all that and then nothing spawned at the end of the landing, which was my last one. So I returned to orbit and then 5 minutes later I saw this video. Although I wouldn't have been able to start the Exotic Quest at least I would have been able to unlock it.

That last part is exactly how I feel...

I heard once you unlock the quest you can use fireteam finder to find a player. I’m gonna unlock it today if you wanna run it I’m a solo player and I need those class items lmao Once you do the quest they can drop from world chest so it’s for sure worth it

My issue isn't the forced team aspect but that I can only do it in as a duo and can't do it with my full fireteam of three.

When you defeat a secret-keeper, does it still have it marked as defeated and carry through daily reset?

It won't let me start the encounter I have my friend with me. I hit the start and it just does nothing

Does this happen on a daily basis or once you complete the Overthrow? Don’t got time to be grinding all these activities in one sitting.

Do you have to do it in all three shots? Or can you do a couple leave and do the third?

I do the overthrows. Then kill 1 wizard then other 2 don’t spawn. Or do you have to just kill 1 wizard then head to the crystal?

Can you defeat a boss, leave and return to location but get a different boss?

this whole thing has to be bugged. I killed all 3 wizards, went to the refraction and there was nothing there for me to kill for the orbs

@@gameknightx I got it to work by fast traveling away and coming back. not sure if this matters, but I had a pathfinder boss fight thing in refraction the first time I went in there. I cleared that out, fast traveled away. then fast traveled and went back to refraction. it worked after that

Esoterickk, overthrows now need a team to do them to spawn the secret lucent hive boss, they apparently fix / changed to a fireteam when they fix the meatball

Mine wasn't showing up, until a theory popped into my head, the only place I hadn't done it at least once before the final boss was in the blooming, so I did it and the wizard appeared, maybe that's one of the requirements, try to defeat the area bosses at least once and then try again, it worked for me.

Thanks for the exotic mission unlock guide, think gonna pass this one. Not only it is "forced" duo fireteam to complete it and the exotic mission itself is taking long time to complete it. Plus, there is a good chance you will get booted by the host before you can get the exotic, Bungie should disable the boot fireteam members option during final moments/encounter finished. Just gonna wait if they released another exotic class item that is "solo" farmable in the future

It's one of the best missions in the game, and is absolutely worth the time and effort. It's almost like a 2 man dungeon, that's how good it is. There are guides and plenty of lfg resources for you to use, it's absolutely worth it. Also that booting thing rarely happens. I've gone through plenty of dungeons and exotic missions, and a few raids, never had that happen

If i didnt damage the wizard im assuming i have to redo it

I had the timer disappear when I fell in the left ditch right after getting the first ball (I had the ball when I died). I respawned, went back for the ball, and unlocked the mission with no timer the rest of the time. Also I did all three wizards solo by traveling to the zones after using the matchmade node to spawn in. Then I did the 2 adjacent zones solo, then re-queued for the matchmade one and did it with 2 randoms. I got the light immediately after killing the wizard there.

I had no idea about this but me and my mate killed all 3 Wizards already haha but we didn't seem to get any notifications about a new mission killing the 3rd.

It’s a “passive” secret quest. No indication but once you drop those orbs and get the option to start the mission, then the “exotic mission” icon will be on your map.

Does this save progress after 3 witches?

Do ya need the campaign finished for it?

The issue isnt the mission, its the fact that they locked exotic class items behind this mission. Which were a major part of the marketing, thats where bungie messed up and why people are upset

You don't have to do it all at once, you can kill a wizard, take a break amd kill the other two another time and it will save your progress. The mission stays in your map as exotic mission icon after you unlock it so you can select it from orbit and repeat it as many times as you want. Hope it helps.

For me, the wizard only spawns when you are near the spawn point, I didn't look or go to the places people mentioned, just sparrowed around the area till I heard the hive spawn sound. Helps to know the map area though

I feel bad for my teammate bc we were both doing the mission learning from zero. We got to the final encounter after a few tries and we didn't notice the exact mechanic in time. Friended them though so we're gonna give it a shot again :)

Once you do these steps, will the mission always be available? Or will it disappear if you log off then have to repeat it

I don't believe you do. I had by chance killed one of the wizards a couple days ago, and I only killed the remaining two today, and was still able to progress to the next part.

Just did all levels on the blooming and went to that exact spot and couldn't find them. Looked all over the blooming as well, almost like they didn't spawn

You don’t need to do it in 7 minutes. Mine went way over and it still let me get the orbs to dunk and the exotic mission is there

I did the landing area first completing the whole overthrow by myself but leave to go to the tower and lost my progress so I did it again and still nothing no message and I search the whole area the wizard never appear there. Bungie never thoroughly fix their game 😒

You have to look for them without leaving the instance of that area

While I don’t mind the occasional LFG experience, you’d think that a Destination where you are effectively alone unless you bring a fireteam would have a quest like this be solo optional. Eh, maybe they’ll take a look at it.

@@kaylaoneill4863 I mean sure, the nomenclature suggests duos but when we have other exotic quests that allow for random or craftable weapons, it's a rather strange decision to set it up this way. I wouldn't call it "perfect" but I don't think there's any wrong with the quest itself(Omitting the tedious set up...), just a weird decision to wrap my head around.

The most "F@ck u solo players" expansion ever, well its FINAL to me now.

I deposited the dark ball after the time expired, but I can't start the mission. Update: It bugged, so I went to orbit, went back and the mission started.

It's a bit stupid that it requires communication considering everyone will want to get the items. I also found I had to complete all the overthrows before the witches would show up after wave 4.
