How To Unlock Car With Dead Battery. Keys Locked Inside With Dead Battery. Break into lock dead car

This is definitely something everyone should know if they are stuck in the same situation. Granted this will not work for all makes/models as for most cars & small suv's the started is located under the hood.

    Thank you friend I am from Russia, we have these cars a rarity. I was very surprised that I would put the battery on charge and would not be able to open the car with the key. It was always possible on Land Rover and BMW. I have a 2018 Ford F150 and there are differences! There are only 2 wires on the left. I connected them and everything WORKED. I don't know what I would do without your video. You are a super dude. Thank you very much. Yes, I'm all wet because it was raining and a river flowed under my machine. I ate it all in cold water at +2 degrees Celsius, but thanks to you I DID IT. THANKS THANKS THANKS and hello to you from Russia

    @@scottdhorn Sure, so I can lock thieves out (which I've done for decades by not leaving anything valuable in the car) or I can take a risk on locking myself out in an emergency (when I likely won't have ten minutes for this trick, or a jump box where I can get to it). This is about the only thing I dislike about my 2015 Fiesta -- all the locks on the car are electric. Doors will open from inside, and the trunk safety latch is mechanical (required by Federal law), but from outside the car, keys or not, if the doors are locked and the battery is dead, I'm locked out. And I don't know if it's even possible to reach the starter from underneath -- surely not without jacking the car up (oh, sorry, jack's locked in the trunk, too). My dad (who's now 85) used to tell me "Locks are to keep honest people honest." No lock will keep a determined thief out. Now, how much effort do I want to take *every single day* to get where a thief can get in seconds just by not caring if it costs me a couple hundred bucks to repair what he broke to get in?

  • @SilntObsvr

    @@scottdhorn Can't get to the alternator, either, if the hood is closed. The latch is inside the locked car. No trailer plug on a no-hitch base model. My solution to theft of the vehicle is the same as to theft of contents -- drive something no one wants to steal. They don't know why I love my Fiesta (hint: fill once a week while commuting 40 miles each way five days a week, and only takes 11 or so gallons).

  • @SilntObsvr

    @SilntObsvr

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@polarys425 Well, remember when cars had clutches? Even if there was no battery installed, you could usually get a start by rolling down a slope and dropping the clutch in 3rd gear (turn on headlights first, otherwise you could damage the alternator). Heck, my first car was an automatic and could do that. But the dual-clutch in my Fiesta is electric, so even if you could roll-start the car (you can't, as far as I can tell) you couldn't do it with an actual dead battery.

    I would guess that you had collision damage to the driver’s door or a driver’s door handle removal in the vehicle history. The metal key should always lock and unlock the driver’s door without any power. Incomplete reassembly after body work likely left the metal key backup mechanism not properly connected.

    You are a lifesaver! Here was my situation. The battery on my grandson's Subaru WRX was dead. The key fob didn't work because the battery was so dead (later I found that it only had about 2.8 volts). His key was not locked inside, but it turns out that the key that he got with the car when he bought it a couple of years ago, works in the ignition (and glove compartment), but not the door lock! It turns out that since he had a key fob, he's never used the key to unlock the door. A previous owner must have replaced the door lock, but not the other two. He only has one key - I've warned him about the perils of only having one key. Thanks again for documenting and posting this solution!

Battery completely died after not really driving it for a few weeks and found my ignition key doesn't unlock my door (maybe the lock is just froze up or something) so with out the fob I couldn't get in but with this trick it gave me enough to use the fob. Hi Great Tip, I've been working on cars over 50 years and never thought of. My 1st car I had 2 start on the starter till I found my bad connection. I got a Halo jumper like your GB40 but if you have no power it won't give the power to start, has a protection circuit that checks your connections so you don't short things out or get sparks. This method would have worked with my earlier jump starters.

    I thought the keys were locked inside the truck, so probably the remote too. Also, didn't you say he disconnected the battery too? So wouldn't that make the red cable at the starter dead? I'm also wondering why the key didn't work in the door?

    On many vehicles, the key just engages an electric switch which activates a solenoid that actually unlatches the door. He may have had the remote from a second set of keys for that vehicle. The red cable is not the same one that is directly attached to the battery. It probably attaches to a solenoid or a distribution panel that provides the positive electricity for the rest of the vehicle. I had a similar problem on my Ford Escape. Because the starter wasn't accessible, I drilled a hole through the hood and used a stiff piece of wire to apply voltage to the positive battery post. My battery was totally dead. Went to a used car lot, found the same vehicle as mine and measured the distances so I knew where to drill.

    You aren't breaking in. This will only work if your car has a dead battery and the locks are all electronic. You still have to have the FOB in hand and for most ppl if they have that then they have a key on the same ring. Very few cars have all electronic locks for this very reason.

    I did the same thing for my 2006 Ford Escape except the starter was located at the top of the engine and inaccessible. However, the alternator is located at the passenger side of the vehicle and towards the rear of the engine with a positive connection attached to the top of the housing. The solution was to remove the wheel and attach a small jumper cable to it while at the same time connecting a negative/ground jumper cable to the vehicle's body, or frame, and allow it to charge for awhile and then use the key fob to open it....for anybody who has had difficulties opening an older model Ford Escape with a useless key and a dead battery! .. 😎

    Great tip! I was with you all the way ... until you opened the hood and showed the negative battery cable had been removed (to simulate the dead battery). I thought you were merely using the starter contacts to get power from your jumper device to the battery, but not if the neg battery cable was disconnected. So now I'm a bit baffled as to how this actually worked. Maybe the battery pack is acting as the battery, and the negative cable on the starter connects to the vehicle electronics (I didn't think so, but...), allowing you to open the doors??
