How to unlock BIOS Supervisor Password from Lenovo Thinkpad Laptop (no damage to laptop)

Ғылым және технология

I demonstrate how to remove/clear BIOS supervisor password from lenovo thinkpad laptops. I have tested this method repeatedly to clear supervisor password of my personal thinkpad W520 and W510. I have been using these laptop since, with absolutely no problem.
Theoretically, this method should work most of the Lenovo laptops. All you need to do is to find the location of EEPROM chip on your laptop (You can google it !).

Should be mentioned somewhere that this only works with 30-series laptops and older (T530/T430/L530/L430/X230/etc.). On newer models (40-series and newer) Lenovo changed the way the passwords are stored and doesn't use the extra EEPROM anymore. For EEPROM locations check this forum post: www.allservice.ro/forum/viewtopic.php?p=3521#3521 For hardware maintenance manuals to help with disassembling: thinkwiki.de/HMM

@@raviei426 It works on anything up to (and including) the 30-series, so it will work on any T400/410/420/430, but not T440 and newer (using the 14" T4xx models as an example). EEPROM location for your T420s is between the southbridge and the battery connector: www.allservice.ro/forum/images/t420s.jpg

I can confirm that this worked on an x200s. The pins you need to connect are the SCL and the SCA pins. You need then to press F1 several times after you jumped the pins. Do not try to set "a new password" but leave it blank just as he says. Then the "release" of the pins at the right moment is crucial. Thanks a bunch man for this tutorial. Saved my month (or so).

Thanks so much for this video! I purchased a msata drive to find out my BIOS was locked and I could not change boot order. After watching this video I was able to reset the supervisor password on my T520 that I had purchased online. Note to anyone attempting this. Hi, I was struggling last night with my T400, managed to boot to BIOS but could not modify anything. Were you just shorting these two pins with screwdriver? Any grounding needed? Just after shorting the pins, Did you have to press F1 to initiate booting to BIOS? Or does it start booting BIOS by itself after you shirt the pins? I'd appreciate some advise.

I can confirm this works. Ex-corporate T400. Timing looks harder than it is. You need to Hit F1 and IMMEDIATELY short the two pins. Too soon and it doesn't boot. You have done it right when the BIOS setup shows the UUID as all Fs. Thanks.

My EEPROM looked a little then what was in the video. The directions were a little off for the R61 in my experience but it did work. All of my tape came off and for some reason had to reapply my own tape. I just used clear duct tape lol.
