Lenovo Thinkpad Power On password Lock Fix

Ғылым және технология

Follow me using the links below:

I CANNOT guarantee that this will work with every laptop. I only used this method with a Lenovo x220.
I can't answer your tech support questions below, but someone might be able to help. Ask a question, hope for the best.
In this video, we remove the BIOS lock of a Lenovo x220 laptop by removing the CMOS battery for 15 minutes.
We also fix the non-working touchpad on the Lenovo x200 Thinkpad laptop
This fix might not work for everyone.

when you pull it apart, you'll see the screw on the other side, if it didn't just fall out at that point. but if you do this at all, your screwdriver would be magnetized. if not, the dollarstore sells some that are, if cheap for one-off use is OK.

This is just the first step. Next step is to locate your EEPROM (which is different for each Lenovo model), then short circuit the 5th and 6th arm on the chip when you see the Lenovo bios boot screen. That should sneak you pass the administration password so you can set a new one. I've successfully did this on the x201and x220 and a few older models. The only model I've had trouble with is the x100e.

Well, what is done here is a reset of the "PowerOn" pw option, which is set in BIOS. My comment to this article is, that you don´t have to wait 15 mins, after disconnecting the CMOS backup battery. Disconnect the CMOS-battery and short the 2 pins on the MOBO connector with a piece ( pincet etc.) of metal for 2-3 secs, and that does the trick. REMEMBER TO DISCONNECT MAIN BATTERY AND PSU BEFORE SHORTENING THE PINS. I have done this on a large variety og Lenovo Laptops and the solutions has worked every time. PLS. note, that if youre dealing with a forgotten "HD PW" code, this solution can NOT help you - it´s only ment to reset the "PowerOn" feature...

I've been asked to look at one of these. It was bought preowned off a site like gumtree. The buyer wasnt aware of what to look for and when he met the seller he showed it power on and made the sale. It's locked before it boots. I can get into a very restricted bios menu but can't really edit anything. I tried to boot up a live USB operating system to just try to get it booted up then go from there by basically doing a fresh install of their choice os. It reads the usb devices and shows them on a boot menu but it won't allow me to select them as a boot device. So i went down the route of an arduino based bios chip reader to try and attempt to find maybe some encrypted data that may lead to a pin. Or I thought about swapping outnthe ssd card (no hdd) and maybe even trying to reflash a new bios and os that way. Or using an ssd card reader to attempt to read data somehow but all this was just ideas and I've never really done anything like this. It's a lovely laptop and the person has basically said if I can fix it I can have it. I have a nice laptop so want to fix it if possible a d give it back to him with no cost of repair because of what happened to him. My gf fell for a similar trap when my computer broke and I had a uni assignment due next day. She tried to save the day and found a cheap laptop. The dude must of edited the photo on the ad and cropped in a windows desktop image over the screen. Then when he came over it had barely enough battery to turn on and he conveniently didn't have am adapter for it. She thought at least it powers on. I will sort an adapter. I found one, powered it up and indont know what he did but there was no operating system he somehow deleted it lol, it just booted into bios if I remember. She was so upset she thought she was helping and I had to now fix the thing. Made me more determined. Had an adapter for it and I had a USB with Linux Ubuntu live os. Took me all of 10 minutes to get it running an os. People are such scammers it's terrible. I had the last laugh. It was decent spec and he tried to ofoad it as a last resort I think, assuming it was beyond repair. Same night I sent him a video of it working and running sweet. And got my assignment typed up and emailed in time 😂

Thi method doesn´t work with many lenovo models. They save the password in a second chip (eeprom). The T61 use a p24s08.

well, newer then a T42. That's a 2003 computer. it's 15 years old. At least look at a T410 which is a first gen i5 or i7 and you can buy them for $60. or a T400 which is $40 tops usually.
