  am trying to buy a W520 and the seller indicates that it has some kind of lock (supervisor in bios?) and cannot boot from hard drive - anyway there is not one - but boots only from usb. Read some information about the eeprom chip and wanted to ask what are the odds in my case. The price is low enough to buy it for parts, excluding the mb, but i want to make use of the laptop.

  It's not required to use both I2C bus wires (SCL/SDA) to short them. Grounding one of them is enougth and thi sis more save. That's more reliable that this works for all Lenovo Thinkpads. Lenovo distributes a Tool to correct the Serial# and Model#. That tool is allways used by lenovo to flash the bios. It's ask directly after start, what you want to do. Flashing the bios or "correct" the SN & Model#. A lenovo service technican who replace the main board use this too.

  Confirmed to work on a bricked Lenovo W520 with error 0199 on startup. It was a bit tricky to disassemble the laptop, but thanks a lot for the useful video!

  Bruh, It's worked. I can't believe it. after 7 year it's worked on Lenovo G50 in 2024🙏🏼❤️🤐 Of course, it took me a day. I had over 20 attempts to short circuit at the right time

  after 2 weeks, I have to say that my laptop has fu**ed up... important motherboard information such as S/N, hardware ID, laptop model and even battery information along with the supervisor password have been wiped off. The battery was charging for three hours. After erasing the battery parameters, the BIOS does not understand the battery charge and it will be empty for half an hour. Also, when the laptop is turned on, it takes 10 seconds to display the Lenovo logo and perform POST.

  Thanks bro I was tired using other methods cmos battery removal and jumper shorting nothing was working on my pc Wasted my whole 2 days trying random methods Finally it helped and my password got removed, thanks.

  Did this with a Y40-80 Lenovo, it worked! In my case I had to stop shorting the pins once the BIOS half loaded and I was able to navigate and change the password.
