I was amazed at the heat gun trick. Just keep in mind, you will probably have to replace the plastic hose connectors. Mine fell apart when I touched the hose. NAPA had the straight ones and ACE hardware had the split. I had the use a "T" connector, no one had the "Y" connector. The "T" worked fine. I have a custom hood so it was a little difficult to get the cowl off but it is all done and thank you so much for your video.

The problem is that the plastic in the inlet tube from the washer pump (as seen inside the tank) flakes off black plastic that gums up the lines and connectors and eventually the nozzles. DO NOT bother to clear the nozzles without cleaning the tank and flushing the washer hoses as well. I used a shop vac to extract all of the remaining fluid and debris from the tank, added fresh water and vacuumed it out, repeating several times until the water was clear of debris. I even used an old toothbrush to brush off that black inlet tube at the bottom of the tank to get rid of loose debris. Then unplug the hose from the nozzles and run the washer to push water through and verify the lines are flushed. Check the hose connectors--especially the "Y" connector where the hose splits off to the two nozzles. It cracks or breaks with age. Auto parts stores have replacements at low cost. Consider replacing any tubing if it is clogged or loose-fitting. As for the nozzles, after cleaning what you can with a sewing needle or similar, the best method is to use a compressor to blow air back from the nozzle head through the nozzle tube. Don't go the other way, or you'll just force a clog. I had to use up to 60psi to clear the clog. This is all a bit more work, but total cost is $0-8 and a guarantee you won't be doing it again for a long time.

Thanks for the advice, especially cleaning the tank using shop Vac, did you remove the tank from engine bay for easy access or were you able to do it without removing it? How did you get Toothbrush to reach all the way to the bottom? I appreciate your advice, I ended up replacing the nozzles with better one, the ones with brass tips, no issues so far but I do need to clean the tank for sure

  • @AdviceFromYourDad

@@dgamada23 I left the tank in place and just stuck the shop vac hose all the way in. Mine is just a basic $50 model that holds maybe 2.5 gallons, but it pulled out all of the liquid quickly and easily and I just moved the hose around if I saw any remaining black debris. The toothbrush can reach all the way to the bottom if you hold it near the base. Just brush around that black inlet tube to free up any loose bits. It doesn't have to be a vigorous brushing. Mine had bits that looked like they were about to flake off. Either that plastic doesn't age well or it was a sloppy molding. Hardware stores sell tile grout cleaning brushes that might have a longer handle for those looking for another option. I should mention ours is the 2004-2008 series truck with a tank that holds 1 gallon of washer fluid. I think more recent models (2012+?) might have a much deeper tank (but hopefully not the plastic debris issue mine has/had), so a toothbrush might not work for that style.
