the newer tp link routers seems to all come with this handy buit-in option for changing the operation mode of the router to routing to access point and even to other options. It is pretty convenient for ease to set up and deals with all the needed configuration...you just flip it, connect an ethernet cable to its wan port and set up its wireless settings. But nowadays it is also very easy to manually set every other router into an access point, wired or not. The basic of it is to just disable the dhcp server of the access point router and assign to it an ip within the same subnet of the main router. Then you just plug an ethernet cable from the lan port of the main to the other lan port of the access point .

BIG THANKS for this video! I was able to make my AP work with my WIFI Vendo machine.. At first a tutorial said to have me connect my USB to LAN to the AP-capable router's LAN port not the WAN port. I did that but didn't work! I came across this video and found out that it's supposed to be connected to the WAN port of the AP. So now it's all up and running.. My vendo's coverage is just expanded. Thanks!!! :D

With most routers, you have a simple settings option with 3 choices : Router or Access Point, or Bridge. Chose one and let it reboot. Then plus the cable from the main router into the internet port. Done.

@@tpsupport Thanks for the great video. One critical feedback would be that Part 1 and Part 2 sound like the same (due to my lack of knowledge) problem. May be that you could have elaborated on the subtle differences for a layman. I have a couple of questions on my setup. I am trying to add a TPLink Archer router to my Frontier Internet setup. I have three network devices (R1, S1, and R2) at my home described as follows. Frontier has already provider me a router (let's call it R1). R1 is connected to the Internet over a coaxial cable. R1's IP address is 192.168.1.1 and is configured to vend DCHP addresses in the range 192.168.1.2-192.168.1.254. R1 is also a Wi-Fi access point. R1 is upstairs. To R1 I have a connected a TpLink 8 port network switch TL-SG108. (let's call it S1). S1 is downstairs. To S1, I have connected a TP-Link AC1750 router (let's call it R2) to extend my Wi-Fi range. I have configured R2 as follows: a) Configured R2 to in AP mode b) Assigned a static IP address 192.168.0.254. c) Cable from S1 is plugged into a LAN port on R2. To R2's Wi-Fi SSID, I have a connected a door bell device, and that is working fine. Also, I am able to connect my iPhone to R2's Wi-Fi SSID. When I login in R1, I see all the devices, whether connected to R1's SSID or R1 Lan Port or R2's SSID, show the IP address in the range 192.168.1.2-192.168.1.254. First Question: Do you think that I have configured my Archer router correctly? Second question: I am not able to login to R2 from my laptop browser that is connected to R2's Wi-Fi SSID. I don't understand why. Third Question: When I login to R1 and see the list of devices, I see the R2 router, however it is showing up as "inactive".

@@gl4511 hi G L, I think the answer to all three questions is the same as it's probably caused by R1 being on the subnet of 192.168.1 and R2 is on the subnet 192.168.0 which makes them not communicate with each other. As you noticed it does pas through internet but when you get an IP address from R1 you're in a different subnet than R2 and therefore not able to acces the web interface. The solution is setting the R2's IP address to something like 192.168.1.254. hope this helped

Thank you for this info! I have a Question: I have a Netgear Nighthawk router that I want to connect to Fios Router as a Access Point, and in the Nighthawk router settings it has AP mode (Access Point mode) , Do I just turn it on enable it and that's it?? or do I need to do something else in the settings? Thank you.

Can AP router increase wifi coverage comparable to that of repeater?

Router that is used as AP is much better and faster option than repeater as communiaction between router and AP is via ethernet cable and not over WiFi.

He left out the most important part. People setup Access Points so that they can connect to the Wifi. For example, when they are in another part of a home (or building). How do they setup the Wifi portion of the Access Point? So that the "wifi" Access Point is an extension of the primary wifi router (seamless connection). Or so that people will manually have to drop the far away weak primary wifi router, and manually connect to the closer stronger "wifi" Access Point. How do you do this important wifi portion?

the reason may be you have both routers with the same ip. configure one router at a time. and change one of the routers ip address. hope this helps new viewers.

You might have router and access point on different networks. For instance of router is in network 172.16.0.0/24, it has IP 172.16.0.1 and access point has IP 172.16.1.2, then they are on different networks and configuration page of access point will be out of range of router's network, however WiFi interfaces and switch will still work

@@user-jt1bx3fx8h I manage to set up my router as repeater, but I did not follow this method. Try google "How to Configure WDS Bridging on TP-Link Dual Band Routers" (if your router is dual band). The key point is you have to enable WDS.

Hi. Up until now I used 4g internet in the house with tplink archer mr200 modem/router. Now I am getting fibre. The ISP will provide the modem/router but I want to extend the wifi to entire house. Question: what kind of router do I need to act as an access point while maintaining capability of full 1 Gbit speed? Does the router (acting as access point) need to have 1Gbit capability or it can be a random old router? Thanks
