Greetings from Sri Lanka.!!!. I followed your instructions to extend my home internet using a D-Link router, and it worked successfully. My internet had been weakened due to a broken antenna. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and providing clear instructions. I greatly appreciate it.
Thank you for this video, I was using router than you but everything still worked. I had a little trouble with the ethernet adapter but got it working after a few tries.
Very helpful video. I'm extending between 2 buildings using a TP-LInk CPE605 and this has enabled me to create the extended router in the other building. Thank you 👍

Amazing explanation. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Exactly the video i was looking for on using my dlink router as extender.
I haven't had great luck with powerline Ethernet, but if it's your only option it's okay. If your home has coaxial cables run to convenient locations MOCA adapters are much faster and much more reliable and consistent and not affected by things like vacuums and microwaves. I've got that same Asus RT-AX58U. It's a great router for the money. I was using one, then got a great deal on an RT-AX82U, so now I'm running them in an Aimesh configuration as access points using MOCA Ethernet as the backhaul and it's pretty awesome, I must say. You also get the benefit of better latency if you want to plug a computer or console into the Ethernet ports on the remote access point. I can't say I'm a fan of D-Link. My previous setup was by them. The hardware was very good, but they basically abandoned it completely after less than two years and they brought out very few updates in that time. Asus seems to get security patches out within a few months of disclosure. For me, a commitment to regular security updates for many years has become a major factor in purchasing any tech. At this point, I'll only buy a Samsung, Google, or Apple phone because nobody else will commit to multiple years of security updates.
simple and smooth.. hats off chief

This is hands down the best way to extend your wifi in your home, forget about mesh, been there done that, a cabled AP will always be better, and you get solid speeds too.
@gepardtilly

You need -67dBm signal strength for mesh, or better -60dBm. Probably you had much inferior signals, like -75 or below.

Hi there thank you for sharing the knowledge. I have managed to connect successfully with WiFi, able to browse, etc but however I can't login into certain websites. It allows me to login using my primary router but not via the new 2nd TP Link router. I have left the name and password unchanged . Can you please advise the reason and solution. It seems like the external servers may be thinking my connection via the 2nd router ( now wifi extender) is unsecured?

Thanks for the video. What I want to know is can I connect the old router to a switch that is already connected to the main router via ethernet cable to use as an switch instead of a WiFi extender or access point. Can it work as a switch and WiFi extender simultaneously? Tks
so I have to use two separate SSID ?
Amazing and straight to the point, I have one question please, in the main router the range of the IP addresses was from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254, so I changed it to start from 192.168.1.11, and I typed 192.168.1.3 in the access point. Is it going to do the job? Or I did something wrong?
To connect new router to old router (as an access point) using ethernet cable, is it using cross-over type or using straight type for the ethernet cable ?

In my use case, main router delivers via gigabit port and my secondary router as a repeater only has 10/100mbps port, so if my internet speed is 1Gbps, then how much internet speed will I get in my secondary routers ports (excluding the connected one) and Wi-Fi medium

It should still be physically connected to the main router
The two routers must be physically connected via LAN cable to work? I am looking for a way to receive transmitted signal wirelessly from one house (a B & B) to the owner's nearby house approximately 100 ft away. They've been connecting to router in the B&B...but signal is weak in their house.
@KnowledgeSharingTech
9 ай бұрын
If you don't want the routers to connect physically, you need to have a router that has Wi-Fi extender mode or a part of a mesh system. Here are some videos to help you with this: kzread.info/dash/bejne/mat1l62yoqqYkbw.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/inqCxJmpl8rIhtY.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/pHyWydWRebzKh5M.html
Do you recommend the old router to have a new wifi name or should I used the same wifi name for both routers?
@KnowledgeSharingTech
Жыл бұрын
Use a new one. I explain it here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dZyrpbtpppycoqw.html
Great video. But there is something I don't understand. If you change the IP address and disable the DHCP serve on the old router (the one being used to extend the signal) why do you need to change the range of IP addresses that the new router is distributing? Please help me understand, if the DHCP server is disabled then the old router is now just a switch like any other switch ....... and if I connected a regular switch to the new router I wouldn't have to change the range of IP addresses the new router is distributing in order to ensure that the regular common-or-garden switch would work. Thanks for your advice! 🤞
@KnowledgeSharingTech
28 күн бұрын
The difference between a switch and a router is: 1- Router distributes IP addresses whereas a switch doesn't 2- A Router has Wi-Fi capabilities whereas a switch doesn't If you let the old router distribute IP addresses, it will conflict with the main router

Everything was going well with me until you produced the TPLink plug-in-extender as a means of connecting the 2 routers! The problem is that for these connecters are fine when they are on the same ring main from the fuse board which I can’t arrange because the incoming service is in a small service room plugged into a power point that is on a spur for that room only!

The powerline adaptors are an optional step. For this method, a direct cable is the main connection.
Although I follow the steps and managed to set up the secondary router, the signal is in not way better than without the secondary router. During messing about, the signal transiently improved as if the secondary router is working (getting speed of 600mbps upload and download) but this quickly disintegrated into no connection. Now I’m back to wonky connection again

Have you toggled around the Channel# and also the Channel Width? 👍
Can't you turn off dhcp on the extender and let the main router just assign it an ip address? Instead of giving it a static ip?
@temp06j723-pmeighttq
6 ай бұрын
Yes you can, but technically speaking it is Not wise. An ever changing IP address on a Secondary Router will lead to some issues down the line. Plus it will be inconvenient if you would ever need the IP address to access the Secondary Router GUI later. So it's best to let it remain Static if it will remain in the same Network for a infinite time.
I followed this and I added a 2nd router in my basement, connected it to the main router via a cat 6 cable. I have around 25 devices, all works fine EXCEPT 2 devices, a Samsung Galaxy Tablet and a Kindle Fire. It connects to the local network, but cannot connect to the internet, I get the message, No Internet Connection. I checked the gateway, all good, I changed the IP address of the new router, same; I changed the SSID (and worked for about 30 seconds, then stopped). As soon as I switch off the 2nd router - all works fine. Any ideas???

Netgear Nighthawk is notorious for being difficult in resetting & then logging in. In other words, you sure can do a 30/30/30 reset but logging back in to the admin page has been impossible on mine. Ultimately, I attempted it many times, I bricked it, tried to unbrick it, got frustrated & gave it away for electronic recycling.

Take a look at this before doing so: kzread.info/dash/bejne/pKiuxa6vf9Pbn7g.html
This is not how I would set it up. I would use the same SSID on both devices but make sure they don't transmit/receive on the same frequency. This is how enterprise equipment is setup. No need for client devices to switch WiFi network to roam freely between access points.
