    I haven't had great luck with powerline Ethernet, but if it's your only option it's okay. If your home has coaxial cables run to convenient locations MOCA adapters are much faster and much more reliable and consistent and not affected by things like vacuums and microwaves. I've got that same Asus RT-AX58U. It's a great router for the money. I was using one, then got a great deal on an RT-AX82U, so now I'm running them in an Aimesh configuration as access points using MOCA Ethernet as the backhaul and it's pretty awesome, I must say. You also get the benefit of better latency if you want to plug a computer or console into the Ethernet ports on the remote access point. I can't say I'm a fan of D-Link. My previous setup was by them. The hardware was very good, but they basically abandoned it completely after less than two years and they brought out very few updates in that time. Asus seems to get security patches out within a few months of disclosure. For me, a commitment to regular security updates for many years has become a major factor in purchasing any tech. At this point, I'll only buy a Samsung, Google, or Apple phone because nobody else will commit to multiple years of security updates.

    If you don't want the routers to connect physically, you need to have a router that has Wi-Fi extender mode or a part of a mesh system. Great video. But there is something I don't understand. If you change the IP address and disable the DHCP serve on the old router (the one being used to extend the signal) why do you need to change the range of IP addresses that the new router is distributing? Please help me understand, if the DHCP server is disabled then the old router is now just a switch like any other switch ....... and if I connected a regular switch to the new router I wouldn't have to change the range of IP addresses the new router is distributing in order to ensure that the regular common-or-garden switch would work. Thanks for your advice! 🤞

  • @KnowledgeSharingTech

    @KnowledgeSharingTech

    28 күн бұрын

    The difference between a switch and a router is: 1- Router distributes IP addresses whereas a switch doesn't 2- A Router has Wi-Fi capabilities whereas a switch doesn't If you let the old router distribute IP addresses, it will conflict with the main router

The problem is that for these connecters are fine when they are on the same ring main from the fuse board which I can’t arrange because the incoming service is in a small service room plugged into a power point that is on a spur for that room only!

    Yes you can, but technically speaking it is Not wise. An ever changing IP address on a Secondary Router will lead to some issues down the line. Plus it will be inconvenient if you would ever need the IP address to access the Secondary Router GUI later. So it's best to let it remain Static if it will remain in the same Network for a infinite time.

    From Netgear's website: On the back of your router, locate the Restore Factory Settings or Reset button. Use a paper clip or similar object to press and hold the Restore Factory Settings or Reset button for seven seconds. Release the Restore Factory Settings or Reset button. Your router resets.

    Netgear Nighthawk is notorious for being difficult in resetting & then logging in. In other words, you sure can do a 30/30/30 reset but logging back in to the admin page has been impossible on mine. Ultimately, I attempted it many times, I bricked it, tried to unbrick it, got frustrated & gave it away for electronic recycling.

    This is not how I would set it up. I would use the same SSID on both devices but make sure they don't transmit/receive on the same frequency. This is how enterprise equipment is setup. No need for client devices to switch WiFi network to roam freely between access points.
