How To Tune Up A Used Band Saw

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Welcome back to the Northland Workshop! In this video Iain goes over how to tune up an old 1977 Rockwell band saw. Iain goes over how to change the tires, align the wheels, replace the tension spring, add a quick release lever, and square the blade to the table in order to give this saw to better than new performance.

I have the Same saw With the exception of having the option to cut metal along with a transmission in the back to slow the blade down,, the only problem is it doesn’t stay locked in that high or low position it starts to migrate out and drift into neutral so I have to pull that all apart and see what the hell is going on in there,, but as far as everything else you’ve done I went ahead and followed your plan of attack here and everything’s perfect.. thanks man..👍

Thank you for this Iain! I have an older band saw from the early 80s in dire need of pretty much everything you have done.

Emily the Rabbit thanks for watching! I wish I could describe the difference in this saw’s performance between when I first tried it after putting the motor on and when I got done tuning it up. It’s like a totally different machine now.

Does the 1934 saw have a miter gauge slot in the table? I’ve heard the really early ones didn’t have a miter gauge slot.

@@TheNorthlandWorkshop No miter slot hex shaft on the blade, no blade guard on the back, crank handle on blade tensioner, stamped steel wheels, … really cool ribbon Delta logo the saw is in very good original unrestored condition.

Why did you sell the Ridgid?

The Ridgid never left the shop. I put a riser block and a 5hp motor on it and use it for resawing now. It can be seen resawing in the desktop organizer video. The Rockwell is actually going to be moving out to the barn pretty soon to make room for a much older (and bigger) bandsaw.

@@TheNorthlandWorkshop I have a Ridgid i fixed and was thinking about adding the riser. I changed the tires with Poly one and the broken tilting mechanism. What blade do you like?

@@SQ_og I run Olson number 23105 blades on it. It’s a half inch blade and the Ridgid has no problem tensioning it. I also put a Carter Quick release tensioner on the Ridgid.
