FInally, I've been waiting for this since launch. It's pretty obvious that most other tuning guides come from people who might know how tuning should work but have no idea how tuning in forza actually works (40/40 arbs, Max/Min aero, 100/0 Diff). This guide on the other hand lays out the quirks of Forza tuning for everyone to understand and getting help from high level drivers adds a lot to the video. This video is an invaluable resource for both new players and long time Forza fans alike. Can't wait for something like category specific tuning guides for TCR, GT and co. in the future, keep up the great work!

another good rule of thumb at least as a general idea for tuning compression on the springs is to aim for 60-65% compression through most turns and making sure not to max them out in high compression zones. Suzuka is a great place to tune because T1 is a high compression turn to make sure you wont max out the spring, the next series of S's are fantastic for dialing in your cambers, the left hander up hill exiting sector one is perfect for setting the accel on the diff, the double right hander following that is perfect for setting both brake bias and decel on the diff, the hairpin following that is great to make sure either 1st or second gear can pull from a low speed, Spoon turn after that is great for checking how the car feels putting power down in an off-camber setting, 130R is the ideal turn for checking aero balance in the car, and the final chicane is great for checking rebound stiffness making sure that the car isnt too agressive/sluggish. Nice to see someone actually mentioning the proper way to tune camber. great video m8

This comment deserves to be pinned, you made great points for tuning cars at Suzuka. It all makes sense now after all, it was build as a Honda testing track. I was using Kyalami since it is a fresh track with some great corners and easy to level cars up considering how often you can get 10.0 for sectors. Also due to lack of Nordschleife which is my go to for tuning.

@@pflolssa Those kind of information isn’t usually shared, at least not this early. The ESV guys basically run the leaderboards, so they know their shit. So two things happend here: Hoki usually explained how tubing works from a real life perspective, but this time skipped all of that and offered numbers that you can apply and they will result in better set ups immediately. And to make this video, he had the best source available to deliver a great guide. His Older guides got criticized a lot and even though he doesn’t like meta tuning itself (tuning with unrealistic settings) he still made this guy and listened to feedback.

Brilliant Hoki, thank you! If I could put in a request for a follow-up video... I would love you to run through a few examples where you apply these lessons to actual stock cars and show the process you go through to determine which upgrades to buy and then how you decide your tuning settings, etc. I've outlined my own approach below but would love to hear yours. 1) Base build: put on race springs, ARBs and dif to get the key tuning options; 2) Base tune: test drive a few laps. Use telemetry to base tune tyre temps to around 33c (when hot), springs just above bottoming out and camber a bit above 0 deg on the outside on tight turns. I'm also getting a feel for the car: how it brakes and whether it is stable turning in under braking; corner entry/exit, especially oversteer when accelerating out of a corner; gearing, especially spinning in low gears or hitting limiter in top gear on straights; etc. Note down your best lap time. 3) Detailed Build: back to upgrades to fix any flaws and/or max out the available points in that class. Add handling if needed (tyre compound, downforce), reduce weight if it feels particularly heavy, upgrade gearbox if gearing issues, and then max out with power upgrades to target class limit (PI). I prioritise handling but try to maximise power, so will try and get the fastest I can that is still fun to race. Then back to test it... 4) Detailed tune: test drive to check the new upgrades have addressed flaws and that the power isn't too much! Tune gears if required/available and tune ARB, springs, dif to get the feel you want. Re-check the points at 2) to check tyres temps, camber, springs OK. Return to 3) if required! 5) I sometimes save this as my 'balanced' tune and then make a 'grip' version and a 'fast' version using different parts/tuning on the base tune, especially where I've had to make a compromise due to lack of PI, or where there are lots of fun upgrade paths, etc. I'll tune them too and compare the laptimes across the 3 tunes. I can then choose the best/fastest or just have an alternative grippy tune to load for Virginia and a faster tune for Le Man! Hope this helps someone but also hope to hear Hoki's approach(es)...

I can say myself that gear tuning can bring tonnes of life to a car in cornering and acceleration. Cars with unnecessarily long individual gears can benefit dramatically from this especially when coupled by running the manual w/ clutch transmission assist setting on the race gearbox. I turned the C8 Z06 into a monster early on by investing on this upgrade and tuning, destroying the AI on the straights with faster shifts and better power bands. It all translated beautifully to online play with buddies and I wouldn't even say that is a meta car. Tuning obviously is a great spectrum but I'd say the race gearbox upgrade is a golden upgrade. Don't skip it on any build

I have been having good luck maxing out anti roll and then backing off the rear and the same with aero. Diffs I max out acceleration and zero out deceleration for RR cars and the. A 75/25 or around there for AWD cars. I also adjust psi to around 2.1 to 2.3 bar on tires. Race tires are a must also and adjusting the brake pressure to limit lockups under braking.

With touring cars, I've been running very well with low downforce setups. Also, it is important to remind people that it's something they should tweak track to track, specially if it's something like le mans without chicanes, where you want the minimum downforce for the best top speed.

Hey, nice video! Seems to me like you really know your stuff. All the cars you show in the video looked like they were on frickin rails, that's a good sign. I just had a couple of thoughts. 1) Maxing the rollbars makes sense for a racecar, since it has so much grip to take advantage of, but doing the same on a stock MX-5 will make control extremely difficult as you overload the tires constantly. Maybe worth mentioning in a future video? 2) In my opinion, you should set tire pressure for max grip, full stop. Why reduce your tire grip for more or less oversteer when you could use rollbars for the same thing, and ultimately have more grip? 3) F/R spring balance should be set based on whether you need more traction at the front or rear, not to affect the balance of grip. That's what rollbars are for! Anyways, thanks for uploading :)

It's a great video. Thank you! It sucks to think though that we will spend all this time getting a great tune on the road only for some idiot to ram us off the track at either the first or final turn of the race.

The stiff ARBs suggestion is great for GT cars and other fast cars but if your building cars in builders cup for example low front ARB gives you the turn in lots of cars desperatly need and many RWD can benefit from softer rear to not oversteer

Good guide. What things should I adjust in a wet race?

Great tuning guide! Definitely helps for RWD cars. 😂
