Dude, thank you! I have been playing guitar for 50 years and I've never had this kind of problem. I just bought a Martin with this pickup. It was perfect when I got it home. I quickly changed the strings, played it for awhile unplugged to break the strings in, all good. Got to my gig, plugged in to the PA and the higher strings had no volume at all. Came home from my gig, watched this video and all better. I was ready to give the guitar back to the dealer.

Same with me, but reversed---over time it was only my higher strings that had volume. Loosened the strings a ways and pushed the saddle, it settled back in, voila, all strings had sound again.

Thank you for this video. I had replaced a broken bridge saddle on my Fender Acoustic and it was too tight and uneven resulting in a tinny treble sound and occasional loud bursts when strumming hard. I evened out the bottom of the saddle like you suggested and made it a bit thinner so it would "slide" into place and it now sounds much better. I am glad you took the time to teach how to install this properly.

This is pretty much spot on. The Fishman under-saddle pickup was not something I was familiar with till I picked up a Martin Jr 10E recently. It is very sensitive to the contact of the saddle. The saddle must fit in easily … I had to sand a little of a Tusq which was too tight a fit. The surface of the underneath of the saddle must be perfectly flat too.

I want to let you that this was such a helpful video. I had the problem of having low volumes on the bass and high volume on the treble strings. Just the first 3 minutes helped me solve it within minutes. A problem I had niggling for the last 6 months and I was so down that the guitar had this defect. And in India, you don't know where to get it done properly. I could do it at home by myself. Thanks!!!!

What about grounding issues?, on my guitar there's a loud 60Hz hum that I can't get rid of, only by touching the end of the cable jack it disappear but when I touch the strings it's still there, Is there a way to ground properly electroacoustic guitars? Mine is not cheap, it's a Martin DC1E with a Fishman Presys+ preamp

@@williamnedaddy1671 Yes, I put a line of copper adhesive tape (the one its used to shield electronics cavities) under the bridge (inside the guitar just where the strings start) along a cable connecting the piezo ground, that copper tape and the ground pin of the output jack, in that way when the strings are installed the ball end makes contact with the copper tape and the noise disappear completely as now whenever you touch any string you're also helping to close the circuit

Even ones that have been inserted to tightly. Just wanting you to get the most out of your tools in the least amount of time as sometimes tools do not come with details of uses. I recently discovered via a stage monitor that my top 3 strings play loudly while the bottom strings barely register by comparison. I removed the saddle and, with the guitar plugged in, I gently tapped on the pickup strip and found that the last inch of it (the portion that would be under the high strings) yielded a much louder response than the remainder. Seems weird. Has anyone else had the same problem? (It appears that Klos didn't respond to any of the questions in the comments.)

I had to put a couple shims under my saddle on my Gibson g45 because it came from factory way to low for some reason. At first I had super loud bass strings, so I made new shims from old credit card, and it worked perfectly, all strings sounded even. But unfortunately I needed to add another shim because it was too low, and now the top e and A bass strings are the opposite of before, I can barley hear them compared to treble strings. Sucks cuz the string height is perfect right now, but now I got to go fool around with shims and piezo. This will be like Fourth time I’ve had to take all strings off. Omg! Problem is, can’t tell if it’s gonna work right until I got all strings back on….geez, if only Gibson had made sure my saddle was proper height. Idk if they make adjustments to the saddle, like sand some off, or if they are all a universal size…kinda weird, cuz normally saddles are either perfect height, or too tall on new guitar from factory. It took me lot of truss rod adjusting, I even took it my local joke of guitar tech, who gave it back to me same as I brought it in. I mean, I strum really hard so I need slightly high action, this first guitar I’ve had to mess with “shims” cuz of low saddle hieght….god I wish I had a good guitar tech in northern Michigan, I could just have them put a new saddle in it, but instead I’m putting strips of a credit card under my saddlle on my new 1200 dollar guitar….grrrrrrr. My 500 dollar PRS parlour guitar, came freaking perfectly set up…My cheap 200 dollar gretch Gin Rickey came perfectly set up…but my Gibson, that is causing me a huge pain in the ass. And this is my 2nd one, I returned the first one because it had huge blemish on the face, and velcro battery pack was hanging out the sound whole. The thing is, the guitar sounds freaking amazing, it really does. And it smells super good too. Lol

Thanks very much for this video. Very good tips indeed. What happens though if the jack becomes loose? How can I reach comfortably inside the guitar to tighten the nut? I don't have a relatively thin arm. What size is this inner nut and with what type of tool do you use to tighten this jack-plug nut? This cannot be accomplished from the outside when the inner nut turns simultaneously. Also, turning the jack hole from the outside may risk over twisting the jack cable.

It's a PITA when you first do it, but it's doable from the outside without removing the strings. At least it was on my 12-string with a Fishman that keeps getting loose. kzread.info/dash/bejne/gpaaydObYdOonrA.html

Hi, I have a Fender villager 12 string acoustic guitar I was just wondering why I get a delay in my fishman tuner when tuning. The led does go green but there' are times when it flashes red even when the guitar is in tune for example when I pluck a string or strum a chord to check the tuning it will go green when I check it a second time it goes red then there will be a delay and it flashes green again I need to keep doing this several times so I know it's tuned correctly it also does this when I tune individual strings it's confusing when you are tuning I just put a new battery in the guitar the battery wasn't a heavy duty one but it sometimes does this with either type,? could you help me with this, thanks 🤩🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

@@carlen1111 I got a new Martin red ribbon pick up and it sounds awesome! So yes it had a slight break in the thin wire and that's all it takes. If you take off the bridge piece and pop out the pick up, massage the pick up wires even and put it back down and tune up evenly and easy. The grounding buzz may go away for a little while until it pinches again? Mine was around the low E string which has the most pressure. If under the saddle is not perfect even and smooth it will break that thin wire on the pick up. It is also tricky putting a new one in, you could really mess up the electronics? I bought the pick up for about 100 bucks..

Use contact cleaner and spray it onto the tuner button let it seep inside and press the tuner button several times to clean the contacts inside the tuner button. Repeat this operation a few times and recheck if the problem solved. Normally when you use the tuner, the output to the Amp is cut off. When you press the tuner button again after finishing the tuning the output to the Amp should connect but due to poor contact ( oxidation) inside the tuner button the sound doesn't come out. You need to clean it as mentioned above. Good Luck.

Question: My Fishman Matrix was installed in 2017 and used on stage nearly every week (used in the recording studio during 2020/2021). I recently noticed a buzz / humming sound never present before and it wasn't after a string change. When I touch the guitar cable the buzz is reduced but still present so I'm assuming there is a ground issue. Any trouble shooting suggestions or is it time to replace this system? It turned out to be a small nick in the top-coat of the pickup (red paint). I cut a small strip of copper tape to cover the entire top area of the pickup (even surface). That worked. Out of curiosity, I am going to pull the tape off then see what happens after dabbing a small amount of clear nail polish on the affected area.

Thanks, but you have to be a bit careful with your choice of words when expressing an idea for a fix. Fortunately I know what the string break angle is and the concept of cutting a slot between saddle and pin hole so as to increase the angle thus increase the pressure of the string on the saddle. You actually said something like, cutting the slot & lowering the angle. I bet you were actually thinking your lowering the edge of the pin hole and in doing so increasing the break angle, but to one who was new to the concept at best they would be confused.
