How to install a Fishman Presys Blend Onboard Preamp
Ғылым және технология
In this video I show how I installed a Fishman Presys Blend Onboard Preamp in my Takamine GS330S Dreadnought acoustic guitar. You can view the written tutorial with photos here:

I like this no nonsense tutorial, which successfully takes away unwarranted worry. Well done.
Thanks, I got a presys+ but no instructions. You install makes loads of sense, I'm putting it in a brand new guitar, not a scratch on it and I'd like to keep it that way. Thanks again!
I like the little device you made for the jack socket. Wish they'd include even a plastic one with the pickup. Very tedious step. I will probably try one of my old patch cables that I never got around to repairing. Good tip. Nice video. Thanks for the share.
I just used your method for a preamp retrofit on my old Yamaha CW-370SE. Perfect results! I printed the cutout template as letter size and I checked the scaling with a ruler to be sure it was accurate. Cheers mate!
thank you , I was looking for this! great help.
Thank you very much, very pricise and no bullshit! Thanks from Indonesia Chief!
Very helpful. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for this!
I appreciate the video. Some good ideas for sure. I have to ask though: Why not just use a dremel and have perfect edges in 2-3 minutes?

good video only thing id recommend was demonstrating what to do to the bridge. Had to watch one more video to understand that for the piezo mic. Otherwise excellent job. Thanks

Hi, Great video... I have the same Fishman Preamp and I am trying to remove the Switchjack. Which way do you turn the nut to take it out.

Should be anti-clockwise
I bought one from China, it took three months to get to me. Found the template online, but when I print it, it comes out with smaller dimensions. (The 2" marks at the top are less than two inches apart, for example) Any suggestions?

Try this one. If it still prints smaller; try a different printer or double check the print settings: www.fishmanjp.com/support/cutout_templates/presys_cutout_template.PDF
Yes common sense help thank you.
What about batteries? Does the presys open wide with a switch? Or you must put them inside before putting strings?

The part with all the controls on it is screwed down to the body, but the inner part can be easily pulled out and then you get access to the battery. Right above where it says Fishman, you can see a little clip you can push on and then that entire part can be lifted out and don't have to remove any screws or anything.
Hi, great video! Question, how do you deal with the curvature of the guitar? Does the preamp adjust or something?

Made of plastic ... the pre-amp is mounted into a swivel housing (for battery access), - i.e. a plate that is screw-mounted onto the guitar. It is slightly flexible, and will accommodate a slight curve (maybe +/- 3-4mm? flex, YMMV), but nothing too extreme, there isn't much clearance between the two parts, and too much flex on the outer housing could reduce the clearance and prevent the unit from opening. How well it sits - around the hip or in the waist of the guitar - depends on how tightly you clamp the plate down in place while fixing it, and ensuring that you drill snug screws holes at 90-degrees to the tangent, ensuring that the plate sits down snug. Mine sits in a slight 'S' shape on a Yamaha dreadnought, with no noticeable gap between housing and body. Great performance pickup.
Tell us how you got that knock in the edge of your guit when you're so careful with it😨
how do i start making the hole of the jack, the place you drilled in i have a guitar strap pin there and i need that, i want to make a hole the same place most electric guitar have it on the bottom corner a bit
@SpinningplanetCoNz

The jack socket also acts as your guitar strap pin/mount. I removed my pin and made the hole larger so the jack socket could fit through. You could put the hole further down but then you'd have to reinforce around and behind that hole. I wouldn't do it. Too risky.
the template is big. how do you resize it accurately?

Mine printed out the correct size. Make sure your printer settings aren't stretching it to fill page.
a bit to fast for me :) I have an already installed one that broke and I bought a replacement but I'm finding it really hard to setup both wires in the correct places, also to remove the old one, would there be a good guide to follow that? I really don't understand how to fix the part that goes in the bridge. also the part that goes on the body did not really got all of it
@BrynnNeilson

The pickup that goes in the bridge is held in place by the strings when they are tightened. In regard to connecting wires, make sure to remove all 4 screws from the preamp so you can remove it and gain access to the wires.

@@BrynnNeilson thanks that helped, I also saw another thai guy doing a video and that also helped. my main problem was that I already had one in my guitar that broke when the battery exploded so honestly replacing it was almost harder as putting up a new one if you don't have all the tools
does it give the junky sound of our finger slides which is louder than string sound? I just returned a microphone pickup on Amazon so not taking chances if this works best
@spinningplanet7915

I've never used a slide on it but it includes a bridge pickup and I don't have any issues with volume
@The_Fat_Turtle

Microphone pickups will detect every noise and make it louder, like the sound of the friction of the strings as we slide out fingers up and down them. A piezo pickup is vibration based, so it only amplifies the vibration it detects from the strings being plucked and sends that signal off, which is why Piezo pickups don't perfectly replicate the sound of an acoustic at louder volumes, but it doesn't have the same issues you faced like when using microphone pickups (especially cheap ones off of eBay).
Heu sir what type of battery used in that pick up

Quick question my saddle is made of brass so how do i file it down?

Then you have to mod the bridge, so it have more space for saddle without sand it

Brass saddles are quite soft and easy to file using just about any file. I don't recommend trying to deepen the slot.. that is very difficult to do and get it level, and you could end up damaging the instrument.
nice one, but the last thing i would do to my beloved guitar it to drill a hole on its side .. i'd simply go for a matrix infinity or an lb6 .. just me though.

I have a mixer connected to my computer and even my old 4-track. Normally I'd mic up a guitar for great sound but if your just playing with ideas it's so much easier to just "jack in" and record or jam.
I need help, My piezo hole is near 1st string, it matters?
@ChristopherFreedom
3 жыл бұрын
Yes it matters.. if you run into that problem the best thing to do is just drill a new hole on the opposite end of the saddle slot.. make sure it's far enough away that the piezo extends out on both of the outer strings the same amount.

@@shankersadhwani9183 Yes. Just use a very sharp tipped knife to create a small hole. The screws will then be able to "bite" into the wood when you screw them in.

However, you'll need a 2.5mm drill for the Saddle Slot and a 12mm drill for the socket. Maybe borrow the tools from someone? www.brynux.com/How_to_install_a_Fishman_Presys_Blend_Onboard_Preamp

Great. Now, go fix your shitty hardwood floors.
I disagree with this method. Use a Dremel, take your time, run it at a lower speed.

You can easily pull it out and put a 9v battery in it.
@teamtamer

The pre-amp is hinged in the middle, the inner unit rotates past 90-degrees to expose 9v battery compartment in back for easy access. The battery clicks into it's compartment, and must be released to slide it out. To access, lift the tab above the 'Fishman' logo, with fingernail or plectrum. Replace the battery, and snap pre-amp back in place.
