Thank you for this video. This is probably some of the most useful advice for treating acne I've ever received (especially on KZread--I love watching product recs videos, but they were overwhelming when I was first starting to get into skincare.) I wish someone had told me all these things when I was a teenager lol

Explained perfectly Dr Sam and the photos helped me to identify the different spots. I discovered skin care 1 year ago now, used and using Retinol/Tretinoin, Niacinamide, Azalic Acid, Vitamin C and SPF 50 daily. I have noticed a considerable reduction in the amount of cystic inflamed lesions/spots. My hyperpigmentation has faded and my skin looks brighter and feels so soft to the touch now. Proof that a good, regular skin care routine, day and night has worked wonders for my skin. I am on a budget (like most) so none of my products I have used and am using, r not expensive at all. Thank u Dr Sam for your help and guidance over the past year. Love Alli X

This is so helpful! Thank you! My moms and I love watching your videos. I have acne prone skin but it’s cleared up so much so I’m just working on clearing your scarring too! My morning routine: Azelaic acid!, CeraVe, SPF. Nightime routine: benzoyl peroxide (every other day, I usually alternate with retinoid), CeraVe. Where should I slot in Niacinamid?

I get bad hormonal acne a week before my cycle and then when they heal, I spend several weeks healing the marks then I get more again before my cycle and the horrid cycle continues. Sick of it!

I suffered from acne from 12 into my late 20’s. I went to all kinds of dermatologists and estheticians, some of which helped only temporarily. I finally cleared it on my own, but my skin is super sensitive from all the topical medications I used over the years.

Hi Dr Sam, I’ve been off accutane now for for nearly 3 years and I would only get the rare spot here and there. I have recently started using azelaic acid 20% and my skin has broken out horribly a mixture of all types of spots. Is this purging? Thanks

I have some small dark blotchy patches that have developed above my lip. I’m not sure if they’re mêlas ma or not (I have medium-brown skin). Any recommendation for this? The spots are very dark- black actually, and have spread into a chain that’s an inch or so long.

My son is 22 and struggles with acne. I stepped in and started getting him excellent skin care. Stress is key. His dad is terminally ill but was diagnosed 7 years ago. This effects his skin tremendously. They say food doesn't effect your skin. If I have a donut, the next day I'm going to have a zit. Period. Chocolate other than white, next day a zit. Like clockwork since I was a kid.

Proper nutrition is definitely important for preventing acne. I had to find that out on my own when I was in my 30s. I wish my dermatologist would have told me when I was a teenager to stop eating sugar and dairy products.

I have had really bad acne for 15 years. I got it late when I was 27 years old because of the birth control shot. I quickly quit it but my acne stayed with me. It wasn’t until this year I started taking antibiotics and I started putting on clindamycin and tretinoin. My acne is now 90% gone. I’m hoping it stays like this 😀

What’s best if we want to clear our acne before getting pregnant ? Only roaccutane has ever made a difference but obviously this is not safe to use now if we plan to have a child in the near future

could you do a video on how to work tretinoin around a hot summer holiday? I use factor 50 and wear a hat and generally try to avoid the sun, but still burn sometimes. I dont want to stop using tret before or during a holiday as then I get breakouts and also have to go through the peeling flaky sensitive stage again when I reintroduce it after my holiday

You can try salicylic acid based face products and decrease the usage of tretinoin, and see if your spf is broad spectrum. Other than that are you hydrating your skin properly?
