The BEST Treatment Approach for Acne + Big Pores| 2022 Update

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

As we kick off our Clear Skin Challenge this week, the topic of treating breakouts, blemishes and blocked pores is very much front of mind. With treatment, the goal is 2-fold - firstly, we want a plan that gets us better quickly. Life is tough, so let’s not suffer needlessly!
But equally, we want a plan that keeps skin clear long-term, so that rather than reacting to your skin, you’re taking charge of your skin so breakouts aren;t always on your mind. This is why I talk endlessly about skin mastery: you control your skin, rather than it controlling you. This is the secret sauce for a healthy, life-enhancing relationship with your skin. More a supportive girlfriend, than a toxic lover!
So let’s get into what an ideal acne treatment plan looks like!

Thank you Dr Sam. I purchased the ordinary AHA toner. I am nervous 😬 about adding into my skin care regimen. I am thinking I could use in the morning a few times a week, skipping my brightly application on the days I use the toner. Thanks 🙏 for your wonderful videos. Dr. Sam’s skin care line is amazing! My skin has never looked better. I use the entire line religiously for the last 2 1/2 years. Never miss a day. ❤

Thank you Dr.Sam 🙏 Do you think it necessary to use all the actives mentioned (retinoids, azelaic acid, bha, benzoyl peroxide)? Would you use them all at once? Should they be introduced all at once or one at a time? Could you please detail more how to introduce the actives?

Thank you for your informative videos. I know that it’s important to keep the skin cleansed, especially after working out. If I work out more than once a day (usually 2-3), do I need to wash my face (& reapply all the actives, etc.?) after each workout? Would this be in addition to what I do in the morning and night? How should I handle my sweaty skin post-workout?

Nooo - I’d stick to a twice daily routine. Perhaps use micellar water to touch up after working out if in the middle of the day. ❤

Aside from products which combine actives in the formulation (like yours, which unfortunately don’t ship to my country 🇮🇪), would you envision a routine in which BPO, BHA, retinoid and azelaic acid, can comfortably be used together? Thanks as always for your amazing content ❤

I used all of those actives but not exactly together. On my nose nose which is super black heads prone, I used azelaic acid and Salicylic acid together and for the rest of my face, azelaic acid (mornings). At nights, I used tretinoin over all my face and then I add BPO over my nose. Keep in mind that I don’t have sensitive skin and I’m a veteran user of many acne actives.

Hi doctor! (I'm 22) Can you please make a video of which actives shouldn't go together? For example, my face washer has salicylic acid and it helped me with the little dots that I had on my forehead. But since last month I've been having hormonal acne, I have little whiteheads paired up with some inflammatory acne, which normally is kind of painful and itchy. I'm back on the pill (is the second month in) and I know that is gonna take another month or two for the pill to have any big effect on my acne. On the other side, I am in a stressful month of my life, cause I'm having exams at university, so I know that is having a bad effect on my acne. My acne happens only around my chin and mouth, rarely do I have a dot on my forehead. What I wanna know is that while iam using a face washer with an active, if I can use still retinol or is it better to start with azelaic acid cause I know that salicylic acid with azelaic doesn't normally irritate. When my face washer ends, I will buy one without actives and start retinol

I've been on various antibiotics over the last few years, used Salysilic acid, Differine, Azaleic acid and BP, but I'm still breaking out either 1 or 2 weeks before my period on my chin. My dermatologist has basically said that's all we can do and I'm set with creams. Not sure what to do next.

Is there a reason 2% is the recommendation for salicylic acid? Are there risks with using higher than 2%, say as with Cosrx's blackhead power liquid that has 4% BHA (which on the box is listed as betaine salicylate)?

Aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) is a derivative of the salicylic acid (BHA) so you can also be allergic to BHA salicylic acid.

Hello! I'm in my 4th month of using skin& me routine, and from what I have gained from this video is I am using the right things. However, this is my 1st month using Niacinamide and I don't know if I can fully blame it on this but I'd like your thoughts. I have dry areas now on my laugh lines, under my nose and on my chin and this is where I am having breakouts. They aren't hugely aggressive acne or bumpy just marks on the chin. Could this be the Niacinamide? I will be fully transparent and say my hydration levels have turned poor over the last few months. The weather is getting colder (in the UK) don't know if it could be this either. But my current regime is I have a daily doser that I put on in the PM. Its Tretinoin 0.015% Niacinamide 4% and Azelaic acid 4%. AM is a gentle cleanser and moisturiser followed by SPF in which i use a mineral sunscreen and then the evening the cleanser and daily doser, leave that on 10 mins and then the moisturiser. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. 🙂

I think you’re using too many actives at night. I would use the Azelaic acid and niacinamide in the morning and the tretinoin alone at night.
