    I'm in my 3rd week after a Left hip replacement surgery and I couldn't for the life of me get my mind wrapped around how I was going to be able to do anything. To my amazement, I was up and down the basement stairs and showering with very little effort in the first week. PT came to my house the day after surgery and put my mind at ease. Be encouraged, it is pretty amazing that they have hip replacement down to an art!

    I had mine done 3wks ago. I dont have a walking frame. I was shown in the hospital to place my crutches with the handles together but pointing opposite way but side by side, so they are like a strong balanced walking stick. I got in on my operated side first slowly and held on to the handle above my head and the car door which helped to slide into and around in the seat. It all seems awkward but just try it if you only have crutches. i also find it handy to take some weight while starting to stand up from my bed or chair.

    I just came home from the hospital from having a total hip replacement on my right. There was a crack in the bone so my Dr said it will take a little longer to heal then my left total hip replacement. I feel very blessed with that. No problems at all. I had surgery on the September 29. I'm trying to wrap my head around it. I can't to. They to me not to pivot my foot on that side. I didn't have very much pain with the other but I have with one. A lot of pain. I just got home 2:30.. Can you show me a video on how not to pivot that right foot. Please and Thank you.

    I don't understand all the fuss getting into the passenger's side. Managed no bother coming home from hospital into a lowish car here in Scotland. I had to travel 100 miles to my Mum 's funeral two weeks later. Again no bother really with a few stops "en route". Not allowed to actually drive for six weeks, though felt l could have. Guess for insurance purposes best not to. I feel everything concerning mobility comes back fairly quickly. Wish l could walk further but have balance problems, l think due one-sided sudden deafness since 2021. Also Peripheral neuropathy in both feet after chronic Sciatica lasting two months also in 2021. Must admit though had a successful THR on my right side with General Anaesthetic. I had some unpleasant side effects for the first two weeks once home but no groin pain only scar "stingyness". Had to wait 9 months but have only praise and thankfulness for the staff at the new NTC here in Fife,Scotland ..🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿😊 Good luck to everyone here in the UK, USA and Canada awaiting your surgery. You'll be fine..xx

    How long do you recommend using the walking frame after hip replacement before using just a cane or crutches please??

  • @EquipMeOT

    @EquipMeOT

    3 жыл бұрын

    It’s pretty person specific. Typically a Walker is important for as long as you are tempted to limp. Once your strength has returned to the point where you can take normal steps with a cane, it’s safe to switch. Many stick with the Walker until they can walk unassisted. A PT can help guide this process!

    @@EquipMeOT I listened to my hip more than any doctors or online timelines. It felt incredibly unstable for a couple weeks. Began using a cane after it felt stable enough. Even watched a video on the correct usage of a cane. As a former pt aide, I felt like I should have known. You’d think that you’d carry the cane on your affected side. But no. I’ve figured out how to sock it into my left hip to alleviate muscles on the left side. It’s bad leg and cane out simultaneously as a step. I was trying to use the cane away from my body. I was thinking, wow, ya gotta have an Arnold sized arm to support this wobbly gait. 😅
