How to Train a Fearful & Aggressive Goldendoodle
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
Today Uncle Stonnie is demonstrating our approach to training a fearful, and kind of aggressive, Goldendoodle. Although Stonnie is demonstrating with this cute Goldendoodle puppy, Ruby, the same basic advice holds true for most breeds and types.

I love Labs too. They are truly wonderful dogs. I’m blessed to have had 2 boys from the same litter (mixed breed) whose mother was a beautiful pure black lab. Then I got my Buddy. A pure yellow lab puppy. Bud became a loving and confident dog, good natured and smart. He learned to run the bike trail with me beside him on my bicycle. My next pup is a black lab I named Colt. He grew up as handsome as the labs in this video. Dog years fly by and we have to sadly part with them way too soon. I lost my Colt a week ago. He was almost 12 years old. Here’s to all our good dogs past and present! My… ❤Buster ❤Colby ❤Buddy ❤Colt ❤Oreo

@Carol ummm, labs ARE Retrievers. That was a confusing statement. 🤷♀️
Aw, thank you Stonnie! Please make a another video on Ruby! I’d love to see how she’s doing in a few weeks.
I would love to see the moments you spoke off where she wouldnt walk on a leash, couldnt be petted, and couldnt do the obstacle course. It is especially those moments where people struggle with
Such a nice job, Stonnie. Poor little thing. Glad she found you.
Thanks to your working with me over 4 years ago, our Standard Poodle is a really great companion. When we got him, he was terrified of everything and everyone. Meeting a new person caused him to roll over on his back and pee everywhere. Your guidance on taking him on puppy adventures and a huge variety of situations brought us to our current happy state. And SO TRUE about the dog having confidence that you make the right choices, and wouldn’t ask him to do anything unsafe.
My very tired poodles head has been shooting up and down every time the whistle blew. She couldn't resist that last call and jumped off the sofa and ran stright to Uncle Stonnie on the TV 😂 Lucky Ruby to have a family putting the effort into getting her the help she needs to have a great life.
Another great video about a tricky problem. But I think anyone who is considering getting a German short-haired pointer should watch it too! let them know that if you want one, they are going to be up in your grill almost every second until they are trained to chill out.
Building confidence in fearful/reactive dogs is so underrated. Another gem of a video from you Stonnie
Ruby is so much like a younger version of my doodle. Oh how I wished I had your knowledge when she was younger!! She is a very well adapted dog now, but it was such a long, long journey and she is still a fear driven dog deep down. Please make another episode with Ruby in a few weeks. I would love to see her progress.

Loved this session. Good to see a pup that is struggling and how well you handle it. Would love to see her progress.
The black labs on top of the table at the beginning are darling!
That was so awesome watching her run at the end!
I like the methodology - no bs, no crazy theories. You're very firm but caring w your dog(s).
Thank you for helping me understand my fearful & aggressive Goldendoodle. Thanks for the tips!!!
Absolutely love your training methods. Your honesty and integrity shine through your dog training. I have studied you methods and love your content!! Thank you for sharing!
Love your method to help Ruby. Thanks for sharing, Stonnie.
Hello Stonnie! You are simply the very best. Think and spend time with the dog. Rethink and spend time with the dog. Repeat the process, think and spend time with the dog. It is amazing how simple it really is. Always love seeing your excellent work and thank you for sharing your insight! 😁👍

Dog training is very simple; unfortunately, simple and easy are not the same things.
I'm curious how old the doodle is Stonnie. Your explanation of how to get a pup through this nervousness / afraidness is awesome. 👍
Stonnie says : there is an inverse relationship between amount of exercise and anxiety. For people too. Exercise your dog people - it’s good for the pooch and you.

I have an older scaredy dog-your suggestions are very helpful. She’s been with me 7 months, the first 3 weeks she would not let me touch her, would never take a treat, panicked at the sign of the leash. Happy to report, she now runs with me in my yard, plays with the cat and seems to trust me MUCH more. Still needs work but we are getting there. It’s hard not to placate when she’s fearful as she only weighs 6 lbs. but I just go about my day Thanks for all the videos!
We've watched you for years now, and think that this is one of your best videos ever. Really enjoyed it!!
Thank you!! Just got a pup that is fearful and anxious about everything new.
Excellent video! Instilling confidence in dogs is the #1 way to eliminate a lot of unwanted behaviours, keep up the awesome work! 😊
I have never seen a silver lab here in Norway before. I saw one for sale at a kind of "craigslist" ad. It was grey and had blue eyes I could not help myself asking if it was a weim mix. The lady admitted to it, but sold it as a "pure" lab. She changed it to lab mix after i called her out thoe😅

They are not labs but a lab mix that people register as chocolate labs. It’s a problem. I’ve been around several and none of them behave like labs.

Was about to comment on that "Silver Lab"; there is no such thing; can't see the dog well enough to decide whether it's a fat Weimaraner or some kind of cross.

Thanks for this one, Stonnie! My doodle has picked up a few bad alerting habits since I got my heeler. Im working on that with both of them and this helps. My doodle is super confident though, so it’s not exactly the same….but I think your style of training is the answer.
happy to see again your video !

New to your channel and absolutely loved every second of this
Love this! Have two toy poodles myself that both need work on being less fearful, and more confident.
Another great vid. Have a timid mini 9mn poodle. From the start, when we got her, have been getting her out in the world and took her to a good local trainer. Have been watching your vids for a few years. Again thanks for these vids. Now taking her out for her early morn woods walk in the dark.

I don't have doodles, but when my staffy X pups reacted to a blowing bag or other strange item in the environment, I walked straight up to it without saying a word to them. Sometimes it can be a simple matter of a bag being caught in a bush that wasn't there before. Now they're curious and investigate everything they concider strange. I see many ppl with fearful dogs, and it's hell for both dog and owner.

Although my almost 5 year old female Standard Poodle named Ara is very confident now, buying her at 4 months old with no socialization with other humans or other dogs, was quite a challenge. Your approach using exercise and exposure to other, older dogs created the possibility for her to become more confident, and able to safely interact with other dogs and with other people. This video is essential for caretakers trying to manage and ultimately resolve this type of behavioral issue, thanks for sharing.
One of my favorite videos! I live with a nervous dog.
I’ve had two golden doodles and both have been fabulous dogs because they are fun loving, generally good with people who don’t know dogs (which means my family) and keen to please. I relate to what you are saying - there are plenty of them that are very nervous and it’s not clear to me why, especially in relation to water as both poodles and golden retrievers were bred to be water fowl field dogs and by nature can be very relaxed. I love your mentor dog model and plan to have my now adult dog be the mentor to our next dog which I hope to find in the next year or so (getting older so going from a big breed to a slightly smaller one but field breeds for their smarty natures).

It’s because some people do not work on confidence on the puppies that have low confidence. Also most ppl who truly know nothing about dogs coddle them during their fear periods instead of showing them that the world is a safe place.
Love this!
Great to see a master a work
I love that GSP! 😍
My lab gravitates to the mud puddles, another clean up! Love the videos and the common sense training.
Stone my pup loves your videos he watches you religiously wishes he lived closer so he could come play😍
wish i knew about 16 years ago, i had a simmilar dog to Ruby, my dog picasso(a cocker spaniel/bichon mix) bit people and dog outside our house. unfortunatly, we bought him from a store in the mall in 2006 and was a puppymill pup. so i think that stems to his violence. we recently put him downearly this year because of cancer. but throuh all that, i loved that dog sooo much.
Thanks much. Great Video. This is very much my doodle also.

LOL Scardie-Doodle is right. Have a niece that has one. Biggest 4-legged chicken ever created. But when she forgets to be afraid and accidentally wanders over to be within reach, discovers anew how great it is to get petted and her ears rubbed. You'll get her to blossom, Stonnie. Good stuff.

That GSP is just beautiful! When are you making a video again of GSP's, @StonieDennis?
Is there much rain where Ruby is from? I got lucky(?), it rained for 6 weeks straight when I brought my pup home. Got that one checked off the exposure list immediately.
Great video! She looked like she was starting to loosen up at the end. She played with the other little dog and her tail was up in the air. Great job Stonnie and Ruby!

Wow, when seen next to each other, you can really see the Weimaraner in that silver mix dog. Pretty though.
Hey Stonnie what do you use are a reward treat? I have a 7 month old lab and to start her training I just used her regular dog food. Well now she doesn't like that as a reward and usually doesn't take it from me unless she is hungry. I see you always have little treats and was wondering what you recommended.
I have a scardy-doodle I'd love to try this on, I just need a pack of polite labs and an obstacle course to help me! LOL. But seriously, how do I try this in the suburbs...I've heard horror stories about dog parks, and dogs in the neighborhood either want to kill us or ignore us

There is no answer for the most common problem of all. Finding mentor dogs that can be trusted. Taking a large chance at a dog park with unknown dogs.
Do you have any videos on how to work with over protective dogs/GSDs?
Bravo dogs, bravo!! OH MY GOSH!!!
How do you correct in the moment when a fearful dog acts out/aggression?
Hi Stonnie. Have you gone to any school for dog trainers or have you built everything through experience and reading books?

What treats do you use?
I would loved to learn why and how to change the behavior of my dog of being fixated on dogs..(he was doing that at daycare and the cat but not with all the dogs..) he wasn't neutered but neutered now and does the same..not sure why..
My aunt had a Yorkie that was fear aggressive. I took her to obedience class and she was better behaved on the leash - to a point.
My dog is a one year ikd goldendoodle.. and we DESPERATELY need help… he goes from 0 to 100 when he sees others dogs on walks.. We live in aprtments and its so hard walking him as hes so reactive.. i dont think its fear its just he wants to get to them and greet but we cant always do that.. what can i do to help with this.. thanks!!

Should we buy finished duck/family dogs?
I have a labradoodle very similar to Ruby but without the aggression. She barks at everyone and submissively pees all the time. She is over a year now without much progress. We have another male labradoodle that is super confident but she is not learning his behavior. Have to keep a roll of paper towels on the ready because she even pees when her family comes home….any advice anyone?
