    I've played with an exceptionally low con before...on a 3.5ed wizard (which means a d4 hit die). I think I had 2 hp with only a 25% chance of gaining more than 1 on each level up. Went through multiple combats (at least 3, probably more like 5) and did not die. Only damage I took was accidentally from another party member and it was subdual (non lethal and goes away quickly).

    "That wouldn't be realistic". The only time I ever have a situation like this is if I have warned the party in advance that there is no possibility of getting through 3 players down. Thankfully, the group I have is rather intelligent and can find work when players are missing. Or we just do a 1 shot to sub for the missing peeps. We only had one situation when a player engaged a fight they could not win while the rest of the party was not there. And the funny part is it was not because the players were missing, they were just three doors down checking out another abandoned house. So what does the Monk do? Punch the spirit that is guarding the book and otherwise not attacking them. I had not even asked them to roll Ini. -smh-

  • @Limrasson

    @Limrasson

    3 жыл бұрын

    I did that when the problem player of the group decided to go solo. At that moment the evil wizard they let go had recruited an army of gobbos and laid an ambush on the road. The party stayed in the hills trying to finish their quest while the problem player walked right into the ambush. The gobbos caught him and the wizard made a deal, for his service and help against the players his life would be spared. So the player led the gobbos and the wizard to the player who at that moment were dealing with a necromancer and his zombies. Now of course the player decided to betray the wizard. But the wizard being a wizard accounted for this and used charm person on the player to pacify him while the gobbos and the zombies duked it out. The ranger died to the warlock, the rogue disengaged from the fight and the sorcerer fought an epic duel against the wizard and won. So did the zombies.

    Funny enough, my experience has been the opposite. Having ini's rolled individually for a large group of say, 20, has made a huge difference on how my party approaches their encounters and fights. And the real kicker is they even asked me not to use hoards because of how much more difficult the encounter can be. It has become a bit of a norm that the party I have will always have 2 wizards or some other class that has at least 1 reliable crowd control attack. We have a dedicated healer, a character than can fight at range (typically a role passed to our wizard who can snipe with eldritch blast), and a tank to cover the front line. The first two roles tend to fall on people who play a character who can also run in the front line.

    EDIT: Don’t need help anymore. Keep scrolling. Smart dudes answered already. Can someone answer a question that’s been pestering me for a while? There’s this page I’ve seen in KZread videos from WoTC and I need to know the book it’s from. It’s got different weapon pictures and stuff like the falchion, warhammer, war pick, and scimitar. It’s in black and white. Please someone answer if you know it’s been bothering me a whole lot.

    Doesn't the base game have War picks and warhammers? Falchions and scimitars are just short swords, in the same way short swords can also be re-skinned as Katanas

    You may be thinking, unless I’m mistaken, of the 3rd or 3.5 edition players handbook, around the section discussing weapons. They have item descriptions along with pictures. I may be wrong tho.

    tbh weapon durability might be an interesting mechanic, if instead of hitpoints it has something similar to points of exhaustion where the effects can be reversed by maintenance and/or paying an npc blacksmith a few silvers to a gold (more for magic items).
