@@rodneydavis9172 I chose Valor because I want to give Inspiration to my party. The extra ways Valor Bards get to use Inspiration are really helpful (extra damage or AC), and give the party lots of options for when and how to use it. Swords has lots of cool things it can do, but it totally eats up your Bardic Inspiration in a way that makes it very situational and much more selfish. This is mitigated after 14th level, but I've honestly never played a character that reached above mid-Tier 3.

I try to use spells like Catnap, Silence, and Enhance Ability to support the party's endeavors, but when it comes to combat its me, my two magical scimitars, and whatever unlucky beings are in my way. Plus he more recently multiclassed into Battlemaster, and using Bardic Flourishes and Maneuvers together is really fun (Plus Two-Weapon Fighting and Mariner fighting styles means I have, with my breastplate, 18 AC).

This video is a service. I have met so many people like this, its insane. They come in so many different brands, and they all knows so much. A wants to make everything realistic and ruins everything. B is backstory psicology trauma Master. C is "consumed all fantasy to ever exist " and just points out all plots. D is build masters, the min maxer. And so many other variants. All that they have in common is wanting to help and share, but they just ruin everyone's day. All that reading and none of them remembers the phrase "in dnd all players are protagonists". They cant stop giving unwanted advice, or scoffing at Novice errors. I wish I knew how to identify those people earlier in my life. Took me 10 years of failed campaign starts and drop outs to finally get one where everyone is a beginner, respectful, cooperative, and not a caveman.

I'm mostly a DM so when I play, I try to RP hardcore so I don't trip up the other DM. Sometimes it means I play worse than I would normally, but it makes for a better table. Knowing when to quote a rule, or correct a wrong assumption is tricky, sometimes it's really needed, other times it's better to just let things play out and talk to the DM or player later, but it's hard not to let the DM training take over.

I've had to quietly shut down so many things that wouldn't work because they misread the details of an ability, it makes me feel really sad inside so sometimes I'll just whisper it and if they don't hear I'll let it slide until next game. Like we totally should have exploded in the basement of that church because the magic girl vigilante takes 5 turns to transform without swift change talents that I know she doesn't have because she notably misread what talents she got anyway, but like I'm not gonna say that when we need her to magically disarm a suicide bomber orc in the basement of a church that is currently being used as a shelter during a snowstorm.

Focus on writing a concept of a guy who can play an instrument/sing a song with a backstory that justify why his music gives him powers, after that try to give 2 flaws and 2 merits to your character (this one can be tricky to understand, create something that occur a lot in you're games and that it is not frustrating: like a stutterer man who is very good at explaining himself while singing, I dunno, I'm improvvisating)

Lmaoo, this is the first time I've seen a vid where the transition to the sponsored ad was the funniest line of the whole thing

whenever I play with people I'm literally always scared that I'm going to end up being this guy so I usually just don't say anything and get way too much in my head. then I think about for years what I almost said and how people might have thought it was avoiding while I try to sleep and the cycle just continues

The fact that you even consider that thought shows that you will almost never be that guy. Don't worry about it.

Also keep in mind there's no harm in sharing stories or talking about builds, as long as you aren't distracting from the game. You can always chat afterwards or during a break. I like to compliment something they did and then say it reminds me of something and wait to see if their interest is piqued or if they don't seem to care
