I'm a 47 year old woman, and I just changed my toilet's valve. I was wondering if I could do it, just to help out my husband, who today, took my place taking our son training (I was feeling under the weather) , so, I decided to do this for him, as a thank you token, I searched for a video to see how it was done, and here you were, being quick, and to the point, in less than 10 minutes, so Thank you! I did this successfully. I Feel accomplished. Lol. Greetings from México.

Quite good, but a couple of thoughts. Looks to me like your white supply line is kinked, which will be a problem. Second, all manufacturers recommend "hand tight" only. May be some folks that need help with achieving that (arthritis, age) but no more than a quarter turn. I check for leaks then when done. I take a few sheets of toilet paper, or kleenex tissue, and wrap it around the connection to see if there is a slow leak. If so I will tighten, maybe 1/8 of a turn and repeat until there is no more leak. Done this on all my plumbing repairs over last 30+ years and it saves a lot of $ and trouble. Thanks for this, much more comprehensive than the manufacturer's instructions.

Thanks for the video. I'm pretty bad at home repairs but was able to replace my toilet bowl valve in about 30 minutes. Some additional points that may help others (1) there is a washer that goes at the bottom of the valve stem and secures the valve stem with the bottom of the toilet tank. For the part that I had, the washer was in a separate plastic bag. Good thing I noticed this before tighten the various nuts. (2) the float height needs to be adjusted to the proper height or the toilet won't flush. One hint is to compare the new valve mechanism with the old and adjust the new mechanism to about the same height as the old one. (3) As an alternative to the "catch the water in a bucket approach", you can use a large sponge to remove water from the tank before you start (takes a bit longer but less of a mess on the floor). (4) Have a scissor ready to cut the plastic tube from the valve to the toilet fill thing since what comes with the replacement is usually longer than you need (5) Have some teflon tape ready in case you have a leak when re-attaching the nut at the bottom of the tank.

Pro Tip - These Fluidmasters are great but they still tend to wear out after a few years and you gotta replace them. If you're replacing the valve with the same kind of value, you don't have to bother taking the entire old one out and detaching the supply line. Just slide the clear plastic lock collar on the post up and then slide the entire top assembly up off the bottom post. Slide the new one on to your desired height, and push the lock collar back down. Then cut your fill hose to length and attach it to the flush tube. This would also be a good time to go ahead and replace the flapper with a Korky Plus to save future headaches. Done!

Ok, just replaced my toilet valve with this video for the first time in my life. Having the bucket ready saved my life as my water would not completely off. The one area that I missed was that there is a washer that comes with the new valve. I initially put the new valve in without the washer and it was leaking rapidly. Then looked for the washer in the packaging and reinstalled the valve with washer and worked like a charm. Only took 15-20 min. but was intense, heavy sweating/breathing and almost passed out but happy it's done now. Thank you for this video

This is a very informative video. Thank You. I came across the running water problem and I got the solution from here. I don't think I'll be needing to replace the valve system (for now), but what amuses me, is the fact that 25 or 30 odd years ago, when I was still around 10 years old, I was able to fix the valve system completely with a Swiss Army knife. The problem back then was exactly that "sut" the stuff that is solid and gets through the filters somehow. It was so easy to take apart the system and remove the little piece of clay or whatever from in between the floater valve. Now days like you said, it's impossible to get it apart and fix it. What a shame. I know capitalism works its magic as well but it's just getting absurd. And to talk about the fact that this video is 9 years old :) Anyways... I got all the info I needed and then some :) I'm not even going to think about trying to take it apart when I get to the point of needing to, and just replace the damn thing. Hats off
