Thank you SO MUCH for this video. The extent of my toilet repair history is to remove the lid and say "huh." And promptly put it back on. Now I can say I was able to replace a fill valve all by myself! And you even showed me how I could do a shortcut by using my existing shaft (since I only had a problem in the head) and not even have to drain it completely and do all those other steps. You are awesome and I really appreciate it. My husband was really glad I didn't ask him to do it...ha!

Success!!! I followed the instructions, ordered the recommended part and now I have a perfectly functioning toilet. Having made this repair, I now understand how to make micro adjustment as they are needed. The inside of my toilet is not longer a mystery to me. The instructions were great! If this 68 year old woman can do this repair, anyone can. Just follow the step by step instructions and demonstration. BTY, it was very nice to have Molly poking her nose into things!

I first initially replaced my old-school toilet valves (3 bathrooms) back in 2000 (bought them at True Value). Then I replaced them all in 2008 (bought them at Home Depot). Now I’ve replaced them all again in 2016. (Bought them at Home Depot again).I too am sold on the fact that the Fluidmaster 400a is my one and only choice for the toilets. Having done a search today on KZread for “Fluidmaster 400a replacement” I stumbled on this video. This is so much better than reading the instructions on the unit. This vid was an exceptional refresher for doing a fluidmaster replacement. One other note. I stumbled on other videos showing the replacement of the seal on the unit vs changing the whole unit out. A whole new unit is only 7 dollars and some change at Home Repo vs 3 dollars and change for the seal. I just changed the whole thing. Besides if you change the seal on the old one, it’s still going to be all crusty full of calcium.Time to change the unit: 20 minutesTotal cost: $7.48 plus tax. Thanks a lot for the refresher sir!

Very simple- I'm a 64 year old widow, and have always been the handyman...plumbing was the one thing I shied away from. I am reusing the existing model of this same set, as a temporary measure. It is old and the valve is chewy. I took everything apart and trimmed a bit of too-long hose. I will be completely replacing the entire works asap, since the unit is over 5 years old and the tube is stiff and crimped. I had a slow refill problem, but by taking everything apart and cleaning it, it all seems to work. This is the PERFECT video for exactly how to do it. Just do make sure that your nuts are tight- my hands are not strong, so I used a rubber jar grip to turn that last bit by hand. Thanks so much for a great video!

Very helpful. Especially the brute force tip!! Thank you Some additional tips for those who follow #1 If you have a turkey bulb baster, you can suck up the residual water (remember it IS clean) and send it down the toilet drain without worrying about sponging it out. Less drips all around #2 Once the water is gone from the tank, two washcloths on either side of the toilet drain are easier to use than one bulky towel to dry out the tank. #3. A small mirror under the water connector and old fill valve lockscrew will let you mimic the smaller picture in the video.

Lifesaver. No one else really went into how to disassemble the valve itself, and that is what I needed to know, since mine got stuck when I tried to adjust it upwards in the tank and water was just spraying everywhere. I didn't know you could just pull the entire top of the stalk off and reseat it. worked like a charm.

Hey, I have the same bucket!! Except mine is the all-purple "All-in-One Primer & Sealer". For a long time, I had been dreaming of acquiring a bucket, and of all the things I could do with it, all the things I could carry in it, such as water, fish, mud, soil, sand... I used to have access to lots of buckets, but they would tend to get lost, cracked, or punctured. Then there was the frustration and agony of not finding a bucket when I could really use one. People told me to put it on my bucket-list to get a bucket, but I didn't have a bucket to make a bucket-list with. It then occurred to me that I should claim one of the many empty paint buckets from work. Having a bucket changed my life. Oh, and great video.

Doooood, great video. The little trick replacing the fill valve by popping the locking ring and re-using the already installed post? Awesome. Literally took 90 seconds. Turn off water to toilet, pop ring on old fluidmaster, unclipped overfill hose, pulled off old fill valve, pushed on new fill valve, attached new hose (could have skipped this technically but new hose has a fill rate clamp), locked the ring back onto the post - DONE (minus adjusting the fill level and the bowl fill rate clamp) . Thanks!

This is the video I needed to withdraw the unit without twisting. Even Fluidmaster's own videos do not tell you how to pull out the valve unit without disconnecting the plumbing. My valve unit cannot be rotated as per the website because my so-called plumber (you've got to love a British plumber) fitted it on the same tight corner as the syphon and there is no room to rotate it. Great video from an intelligent plumber.

Around The Home The Video was great! My Roadblock was that I could not get that damn plastic bolt off with the Channel Locks! I struggled with it for over an hour and finally at just about 9 PM, I texted my neighbour and asked if I could borrow him and his muscles. Lol The adjuster for the water level also did not seem to allow us to set the water level to a height just below the cylindrical column. Everything is functioning properly now and water level seems sufficient upon flushing. I was so impressed with your Video that I subscribed and will share with my girlfriends. P.S. Hi Nathan, there is something I would like to share with everyone. When I install the fill valve, I did not attach the little clip to the hose like it suppose to. I place the hose inside the overflow. That will cause the water to flush into the toilet and every five minutes it will cause the tank to fill with water again.......I did follow your instructions with the hose and now my toilet is working fine......Thank you a lot.

Just did my 400A successfully. The boxed instructions are very confusing. In step 2 it says "DO NOT MOVE LOCK RING it holds the body and shank together." As you pointed out "moving" that lock ring is necessary to adjust the core. You popped the ring easily however I had to grapple with mine since it was REAL TIGHT. It also says that 8 turns on the float screw represent one half inch in water level and I found that I could get one half inch in about 5 turns. My toilet now fills quicker and sounds operationally healthier. Bought mine at Home Depot for $7.48 plus tax. Some universal valves come in blister packs but I love the easy to access cardboard box. I would have paid $19.99 for Kohler's OEM valve online so I am very happy. I have a K4634 toilet with no flapper so mine may be newer than the toilet in your video. My model number was inside the tank however it was not where Kohler said it would be and it was stenciled and not carved in the china as they also said it would be. No leaks at all!! Thanks for the video KZread is the best but it is the people who make that way.
