How to Tie the Duncan Loop Knot!
Спорт
In this knot tutorial, Brian Flechsig from Mad River Outfitters breaks down how easy it is to tie a Duncan Loop Knot......also known as a Uni Knot or Uni Loop.
"If you are wondering what the difference is between the Duncan Loop vs Uni Knot, there is actually no difference with the exception of the name. The Duncan Loop or Duncan Knot was originally named after Norman Duncan who developed the fishing knot in the early 1960s. Although, Vic Dunaway, a former editor at the Miami Herald, is known for popularizing this knot as the Uni Knot in a fishing book that he wrote in 1970."

Being a fan of match pole fishing, it's interesting to see the similarities, especially the use of loop knots and line diameters. Love this fly fishing channel. Keep up the excellent work. 👍

Thanks for watching.
As always Brian, this is one of the best videos I've seen on tying a loop knot. I'm of the age that my eyes and dexterity aren't what they were 20 or 30 years ago. I wanted an easier loop knot to tie on my streamers. I'll do this but use a split ring/keychain kinda thing that's on my MRO sling pack to hold the fly while tying the knot. Keep them coming man!

As always, I find your videos very informative. What is that fly? Do you sell it? It looks killer for crappie.

What is the breaking strength of this Duncan loop knot?

Cutting the loop of the flyline to introduce another loop-loop connection? I‘m moving over to the do-not-cut-the-loop fraction

MRO teaches that the removal of the loop in the end of the fly line isn’t necessarily so much about omitting the loop to loop connection as much as it is removing the large chunk of mass created not only by the doubled up fly line but then also the addition of a thick, similarly stiff butt section material. That particular connection is what causes issues for some folks. Energy transfer between leader material loops is negligible. If you do trim your snelled butt section back far enough to simply add a perfection loop, the connection and energy transfer from that heavy mono to mono/loop to loop connection is far superior to the “speed bump” created by the original factory welded loop. Sometimes the physics just don’t add up for some folks and that’s ok. It’s all just fishin’ 🤙🏻
