HOW TO TIE DOUBLE / TANDEM KNOTTED ASSIST HOOKS

Subscribe AND CLICK THE BELL ►: bit.ly/thefishingkit
In the previous video, I shared how to make knotted single assist hooks, in this video, I show how to make knotted tandem assist hooks.
The process is fairly simple as long as you know how to make the knotted singles, the second hook is a bit tricky when you tie these knotted tandem assist hooks with eyed hooks, but is fairly straightforward when you use spade heads for the knotted tandem assist hooks.
As with the first video on knotted assist hooks, the most challenging to tie are the tandem knotted assist hooks using spade headed hooks. The important point to take into account for this is the size of the assist cord and how you need to really tighten it so the cord grips the shank and it does not go over the spade head.
Double or Tandem Assist hooks are especially good for slow jigging, the tandem or double knotted assist hook you see in this video makes the process more simple and less time consuming than the versions with bindings, although not as clean or streamlined, the double knotted version uses no glue and is more efficient to tie.

    Ha ha. Just watched this. Saw your vid yesterday and did some singles. Then decided to do the doubles and found that indeed you must change the the pass tag on the second hook! One quick tip I found out while doing this: You need the pass through loop made by thick cord. It passes the tag way way easier than a thin line. Try it! This kind of tool can also be made for another job. If you make it with very thin wire instead of line, you can use it to splice assist cord instead of the splicing needle. I broke my splicing needle the other day and needed to splice some assist cord. I used the thin wire used for vaping coils. The thinner the better. You pass the loop through half the assist cord and catch the other part of the cord like you do with the splicing needle. Never bought another splicing needle, cause this works like a charm. Luv from Greece!

    nice :D maybe someone will find that tip useful! the thicker cord messes with measurements. if you are freeballing it, ya, it works too.

    Why do you prefer this knot over the easier unit knot to the shank? How do you add flash using this method? Thanks! Keep these vids coming!

    Its not as clean and it makes the consistency of spacing of the hook and cord difficut. I dont put flash on this, if i have yo use flash, i use the binding method.

    I am looking at assist hook cords and what you are using. You mention aliexpress but which one if you have a link that would be helpful. I am making all my own rigs mostly slow jigs and baku baku skirts. It seems really popular now to use hooks with crystal flash or adding a octopus/ baku baku skirt to a bait rig. The extra colours/ uv and movement is helping out bite rates. I have some Venetian Blind Cord its a braided polyester cord. Its uv and high brasion resistant. Its 2mm thick which is fairly large i feel. Its plenty strong enough i suspect it will be in excess of 60kg.

    Hi SideWinder, I wouldn't use cords other than the ones that are meant for making assist hooks since at the end of the day, they are made with different fibers and for their size, they are quite strong. Using thick materials will have an adverse effect on the jigs - using flash and skirts also have an effect, but you can control that - you get more bites up to a certain extent and depending on how deep you fish, they may, or may not benefit you. The benefit in using them is usually around shallow water with their use and effectivity diminishing as you go deeper. I would not recommend Ali Express if you don't know what you are looking for - amzn.to/3slaIYG use this link as it will make your life easier.

    is better to use a little tube to make the knot

  • @TheFishingKit

    @TheFishingKit

    you mean a shrink tube? you still have to make a knot then shrink tube it. the tube is just there to protect the knot, but it doesnt hold the hook and cord together.
