How To Tie Slow Pitch Jigging Double Assist Hook | Johnny Jigs | Offshore Fishing | Jigging Hooks
This is a video a lot of our subscribers have asked for so here you go. How to tie slow pitch jigging assist hooks is a lot easier thank you would think. Ideally before heading offshore fishing you tie these hooks at home. I like to have a stack of 15-20 assist hooks ready to go.

    This was one of the best tutorials for rigging assist hooks, The presenter was talking and although there was music in the background it was low enough so you could hear him talking. Other youtubers take notice. PLEASE!!! The videos with just loud obnoxious music and no talking, I instantly shut them off.

    For those who use shrink tubing, try using hot water from the microwave oven, it cures the shrink tube evenly. Just put a cup of water in the microwave for two minutes and place the assist hook with shrink tube in place under the hot water for 30 seconds. You can't go wrong, it works great.

    Great video! I fish Louisiana for red snapper and we have to use circle hooks. I have just started using flat fall jigs rather than cut bait and am having good results but we are required to use circle hooks. I'm fine to replace factory hooks with circle hooks but would like your comments on how these work on a flat fall jig and what brand / size you recommend ... our snapper are 6-20 lbs. Thanks

    We use 4/0 up to 7/0. The Johnnyjigs single assist is a great option as well as the Gamakatsu 510. There is alot of factors on hook size that I could do a whole seminar on. Based on targeted species, depth, jig profiles, and size. I will try to dig into that in depth throughout the year. Thank w.a...

    Would there be any advantage to attaching the double assist you show here to the lower solid ring of the ball-bearing swivel? Otherwise, It seems like a lot of HW between the jig split ring, solid ring assist hooks, and solid ring swivel, right?

  • @JohnnyJigsTV

    @JohnnyJigsTV

    2 жыл бұрын

    That is a great question. Yes, anytime you can avoid fighting the fish through the split ring you have a better chance of not losing a fish.

  • @motleypixel

    @motleypixel

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@JohnnyJigsTV Awesome, just to clarify, both ways you are fighting the "fish" with a split ring attached to the jig. This way in the video it's jig, split ring, assist solid ring AND BB swivel solid ring. The way I'm asking is jig, split ring, then BB swivel solid ring and that's it, because I'm attaching my PE Kevlar assist cord directly to the bottom solid ring of the BB swivel. So you are saying this way is better? To fight the fish? Sorry just making sure. Thanks.

    Hi Benny, It depends on what trip you are planning on. If you are on a deep drop trip I would suggest having a reel packed with 15 or 20# test for the deeper water and a reel with 30# test for the shallow spots [400' and less] as for fluoro I would suggest 10 to 12' of 40 or 50# top shot. BTW thank you for checking out our channel and all the comments.....Johnny

  • @JohnnyJigsTV

    @JohnnyJigsTV

    The idea is when a fish strikes the pressure will cause the hooks to spread like a grappling hook and give you two places of penetration in different locations. Granted it doesn't always work out that way but that is the theory.
