    You can buy solid rings that have ball bearing swivels connected when manufactured (not tiny barrel swivels) they are not cheap but allow you to loop your assist hooks directly to the solid ring & your lure to the solid with a split ring. I bought some figure 8 solid rings which are also nice to tie your leader directly to then your lure with a split ring to the lower ring & this gives you the option to flank the lure with 2 looped individual assist hooks up front or 1 fwd & 1 back (with a strong pound test rated split ring for the back 1.)

    What type knot do you tie your braid to the swivel with. What brand were the jigs you were showing in the video.

  • @bottomfishing24-7

    Usually a polymar knot or a clinch knot. However, braid to mono without a swivel, we use an FG knot mostly to connect direct.

    Always go for 100% connection. Always go for a chain knot-AG or TN. Heck just adding chain knots(alternating half hitches) to Your current knot and it will improve it significantly. Palomar is like 20 to 40% connection adding chain knots to it will bump it up to close 90+%.

    I see all the top YT fishos tie directly to the solid ring. If you want to change colours/ jig you just swap using the split ring. This gives you direct contact to the hooks which is best practice. If anything a swivel should be connected to the solid ring or with a leader to the jig further up the line. Not sure about line twist, I have seen some say if it twists one way surely it will spin and untwist it self. Spinning is jig movement to attract fish?.

    Movement of the Jig with a swivel is slightly better IMO... We'll show the difference in a Pool video, it has more action. although Its slight, it's better.

    Anytime I hook a Grouper and it's swim bladder blows up, they end up skiing on their way up. It wraps up the line around the fish and sometimes I have lost a fish because of it. Since using a bb swivel it greatly eliminated those losses.

    The inventor of spj says differently tho. Best practice. For spj Leader>solid ring/bb seivel>load bearing split ring>assist hook(shud always orient on top of the jig- this is the mistake most people make)+ jig. For fast jigging leader line>solid ring with the assist hook>non load bearing split ring+jig Bb swivel- prevent line twisting when pulling the fish up to surface if its spinning, heavier might impede actions in smaller or micro jigs. Solid ring-lighter & eliminate tackle failure since less moving parts, limits the jig from rolling over esp fluttering jigs. For spj tieing directly to solid ring with the assist hook will place your assist hook higher and cud cause you miss bites. Learn from a seminar who fish alot and learn from sato san directly.

    Damn that chinese pink/white 60g works damn well the other day. But why did you say smaller jig work well on catch bigger fish?

  • @bottomfishing24-7

    Well, sometimes the smaller silhouette does work better. Even larger fish eat very small prey. It's always worth a try if current allows.

    Probably so.. The flash from the foil wrap is more important in my opinion and research, but.. You're probably right on the gray color.. We'll film it and see.

    Theres a great youtube video on colors at depths created by Sato sensei (sp?) It sent down a minisub w cameras & monitored color changes at depths. Yes red/pink fade quickly. Blue & green last all the way down deep & down dep contrast is important. Ex. Zebra glow & black would be a good pattern down deep. Or zg with blue/green.

    What size of hook for 60 grams? 2/0?

  • @bottomfishing24-7

    @bottomfishing24-7

    Depends on the fish target, but I would probabky start with a 2/0.. If it gets to big or heavy, it will start to interfere with the Jig action. Play it by ear, start with a 2/0 IMO.

    I fish pretty much strictly with these size jigs and they work great. Glad to see someone else using them, we have a 21 foot whaler with a single 150 outboard. Deepest water we hit was 60 foot but most of the reefs we hit are 30-45’. Glad I’m rigging them the right way 😂 thanks for the info. I typically switch my hooks from the top to the bottom of the jig and usually don’t have too many snags that way

    How to you connect the leader to the ball bearing swivel ? Another question do you add assist hooks on the tail end ?

  • @bottomfishing24-7

    @bottomfishing24-7

    Жыл бұрын

    You'll tie to the swivel in this instance. Some will tie to the split ring without a swivel. There's much debate on where to tie on.. Lately, we've seen the best jig action, no leader tangle and good catch ratios by slipping the spro brand micro 80 barrel swivel onto the split ring.. Then tie your leader to that swivel. Sometimes we fish hooks on both ends. It depends on how "snaggy" the bottom is. You do lose a little chances of a good hook up with hooks on one end only because the fish doesn't know the difference most of the time.

    Give it a try.. You'll probably like how it feels and how it all comes together. You;ll feel the action of the jig better. I definitely feel the jig movement better, which I personally feel gives me better control and precision when pitching the jig.

    @@bottomfishing24-7 CooI, I never saw a BB swivel that looks like that. I fish freshwater with live alewives, straight down about 40'+ -, for brown trout. Those little f#*kers swim in circles, twisting my line horribly. So I put a high quality, large BB swivel directly in line between leader and main line, so it also serves as the weight I need to get down. Don't you know even with a top end BB swivel they still twist the line!? They only fix I have found is if I keep them moving, like a very slow troll. Then I'm dragging them by the nose so they can't swim in circles!

    It's a matter of angler opinion.. Even though we've only been using swivels this way for 10 years on SPJ (I use jigs both with an without swivels), and over 30 years on speed jigs both ways as well. Real world fishing (commercial, charter and rec) has shown it works pretty well. The information is based solely on decades of experience. The information isn't wrong, it's just not what you prefer, but MANY anglers use swivels this way, and that is factual.

    Very true , as well as tying directly to the assist solid ring , with no swivel , it like you stated it's debatable, one thing I know for sure ,it's not to tie to split ring ,,and then try either way , to see what works best for you as to fish catching..,with ,without swivel, or tying directly to the solid ring of the assist hooks..
