How To Tie A Dropper Loop Knot [Fast & Easy Way]

Ойын-сауық

When using a dropper rig, it is extremely helpful to use a loop knot so that you can quickly and easily change your weight sizes without even having to re-tie any knots.
This video shows how to tie a Dropper Rig Knot using the very strong and easy to tie Surgeon's knot (which I have found to be better than a dropper rig knot).
Although there is a knot that's actually called a "Dropper Rig Knot", I highly recommend using the Surgeon's Loop knot shown in this video because it's much easier to tie and it proved to be the stronger of the two in when I did some strength testing on them.
Best of all, these loop knots allow for an extremely fast change of weight sizes (and even hook sizes too if using this knot up the line).
And since the Surgeon's knot makes this dropper rig easier to tie, stronger, and gives you the ability to change out weights or hooks without retying your knots, it's tough to beat this dropper loop knot.

How do I tie this knot with heavy mono, i.e 20lb or more ? I use 3 overhands or more. The coils in my knots go over each other instead of in a line, despite wetting the line with saliva or water. I never have that problem with 10lb mono.

One slow day on the back of a big boat a few years ago we did a challenge with that knot on one end, and other knots on the other end and pulled hard enough that one would fail. We were using 16lb mono as a test and this knot held with dozens of others on the other side with everyone's favorite knot and any we could look up on line. Great knot. Its not the only one you need, but a fantastic knot for beginners.

Since I was very young I wanted to learn how to fish, and just a few years ago my son, grandson, son-in-law asked me if they could go fishing, along with my neighbor, who considers himself a fish aficionado and fishing guide guru, all went to the local pier on a fishing trip, and had the time of our lives. My grandson who was about 6.5 years of age caught the first fish of the day, about six inches long. A competition ensued between my son who was 27 years old at the time to a winner take all grudge match, because of my son’s comments about the size of the fish. I took pictures of the events throughout the day. I hated fishing myself because of an earlier life fishing experience when I was about 11 years of age and no fishing experience. There were three of us and no one knew anything about fishing. I was glad to have introduced and reintroduced three generations of my family to the sport, I only wish that I had done so earlier on, though my family has been after me many times since. This all reminds me of the song “Cats In The Cradle-Harry Chapin”. I often go back and look over the photos of that day and it makes me proud.

I use this knot all the time. I know it as the surgeon's knot

Yes, the Surgeon's knot can be used for both line to line connections and to make dropper loops. It is surprisingly strong given how simple and easy it is to tie.

Thanks for the last comment. A lot of people like to trash our fishing waters. Good instructions on the drop rig. This knot can also be used further up the line for multiple hooks..Thanks again.

It would problematic. If you got a fish on the top hook the rest of the line and hooks would get tangled around the fish
