I think an other good advice, when you know enough of a language to do it, is to look at the definition in the language, and not at the translation in your native tongue, when you don't know a word. There are some English words I wouldn't even be able to translate in French, but I just know what they mean and how they are used, and it's really a better way to learn words that are a bit specific to the language.

For me it's quite simple to think in a foreign language and it comes quite naturally. Maybe the reason is that we had to learn hundreds of phrases in English at school. For example we had to learn 50 different phrases how to say "Sorry, I didn't understand" or for "I don't know the answer" or for "Let me think" and so on. My challenge is rather to not mix up all the different languages. Sometimes I really speak German Franglish because I can't find the right word in the right language ... 😅

I will apply these tips to German. Right now I'm struggling to get from A1 to level A2. The problem is that I rely too much on English and tend to translate almost everything from German to English, which is my second language. I am trying to remember how I learned English from very basic to almost C1. It didn't happen over night. I kept learning step by step and one day I realised I was actually thinking in English. I don't recall the exact moment when I stopped translating into my head, but I got there. Hope some day I will be as fluent in German as I am in English.

The question is why do you think in English in the first place? Usually, I "translate from ideas to the target language", that is, I verbalize, rather than from one language to another. I try to only use a language other than the target one when it's hard for me to organize my thoughts, but not for a language-to-language translation. The aim is, in this case, to clarify, filter and set my thoughts in a linear way as it is in oral and written language, contrary to the massive and messy cluster of ideas. And that happens to me even in my mother tongue, when another language express the ideas better than my own.

I was trying to stops thinking and translate into to my native language. While i was listen to english music without translate anything. I couldn't understand anything in lyrics. Just enjoy with the backsound or instrument the music. If i really want to know what the meaning of song's. I need to translate to into my native language. By the way i can think quickly but i have 2 job in my head. Perhaps , delay only 2 second to understand what they said in english. I didn't translate fully. But i just only resume what the point and important stuff. But i can't replace my thought idk why. But love your topic

I think I would hate beautiful English language if that would be my alarm sound on early mornings, so I won't do that.😃 You are such a nice couple, where did you meet with your wife, in England? I have lived in the U.K. for a couple of years and also had a British boyfriend. Unfortunately he had a car accident and died. He is a star now in the sky and I am sure he helped me to find your channel.🌠 Take care and thank you for your help in English.❤️
