I can only comment on the products that I use, but when it comes to Sherwin Williams, I've learned that just opening the can or bucket and letting it sit for a good 30 minutes or so helps out a lot. I remember back in the day when we used to use Glidden Ultra Hide Alkyd on commercial jobs, and when you poured some in your work pot it had the consistency of jelly. You would have thought that you'd need to thin pretty heavily, mistake. A cap of spirts to a quart of paint in your work pot and all of a sudden you were cutting in with butter.
Yes corn starch does work as a thickening agent in some paints. I was taught that by some old timers when I started painting in the 80s.
Thank you just what I needed to know!
I really enjoy your programs on youtube, they are educational videos. I was impressed with the comments of old school tricks with paint and wanted to know if you could do a series on what the old timers used to do on the job and what modern TechKnowledge has now.
I was one of the unfortunate people who had to use cornstarch to paint that was too thin. I had 2 gallons of Sherwin Williams pro industrial DTM acrylic paint that I had ruined when shooting out the lines and too much water got into the paint and the product was too thin. Because of scarcity of materials I had to do what I had to do. I added lots of corn starch to the paint and after too days of trying to vaporized the paint and thicken w corn starch it was ok to work with. Customer bought the frames we painted with the paint but I do no recommend lol
Interesting!!! Never used a Thickener before, but many times I feel it could of been necessary!
Hi Chris great video 👍 . Just wondering if you've ever thought about having a podcast? Think that would be really interesting.
I spray cabinets for a living. I use Benjamin Moore Command. Can this be added to acrylic urethane? And where do I buy CW9002?
Awesome info Chris 👍🏻

Bad ass.
Best paint for Cabinets, Alkyd paint or Pro industrial. Hands down! Lacquer to toxic, Oil base paint old fashion.
You should do a video on Floetrol
Acrysol RM2020 is another great rheological modifier.

Thanks for sharing
Do you have Centurian products? Do you have any training sessions coming up for using them? What viscosity do you use/prefer for airless spraying? As always, thanks for what you do!
Can you thicken oil based polyurethane?
