    Make sure engine is cold when removing radiator cap! Otherwise you could be badly burned as the system is under pressure to prevent coolant from boiling. Use a rag when removing cap and open it slowly-just to be on the safe side.

    Nice test kit. I've always done it old school by pulling the oil dipstick and checking it for chocolate milk as it were. As well as hydrocarbons in the coolant. That test kit seems to let one know way before the coolant does. What a time saver.

  • @michaelkulman7095

    @michaelkulman7095

    Жыл бұрын

    Sure the tester is great but knowing what to look for without it is worth mentioning. Not everybody is a mechanic or enthusiast either so showing how to do things without the special tool is often overlooked by people that have a lot of tools and like tools. I mean I have spark testers at home but I don't carry them, it's not like you can't test for spark more crudely... Normally I like milkshakes, the kind you mention...not so much. I like this channel, I'm just saying in general people with a lot of tools often don't mention how you do something on the road with less tools... I once removed my license light with pigtail wires to use as a test light instead of just being helpless or waiting for a friend to take to the store to get a test light or multimeter. A perfect example is if you have a multimeter you tend to use it even for things a test light, crude or otherwise would suffice for. I worry that old useful knowledge is slipping away even if in your example that's a late symptom... It's still good to look at your coolant and oil regularly... I'll give an example, I had to fix some trailer lights and didn't have a test light, multimeter or vehicle with trailer light plug so I used an old school battery charger to send current down the wires one by one to find my problem using a nail and a piece of wire clamped in the alligator clips...more people own a battery charger or jumper cables for that matter than multimeters/VOMs... I've done that too used jumper cables to test trailer lights and a wire or two and a nail... Even when you own that stuff do you keep it in your car? Warning new school battery chargers have to sense some current to put out current so they won't work for this! Why not just hook up trailer to vehicle? Maybe you want to see which has the problem? Maybe you are looking at a used trailer driving your non-tow vehicle...and so on ... Even when you have special tools, and I have some, at home it's good to know how to proceed without them...steal a wire from a noncritical system or a hose or jump something... You don't McGyver stuff so much when in a fully stocked shop... Even with mechanics I see this but I don't have the proper tools attitude as if people didn't do it without some of those in the past... I'm not criticizing you at all I guess I just wanted to spout off...

One weird and hard to diagnose head gasket queen is the Northstar GM premium V8, I am sure you already know this but it will not be as obvious as a Chevy or Ford. The Caddys with this nightmare have become so numerous with this failure the cars are almost free because no dealer will have them. Had 2 of them before going with Lincoln Mercury after 25 years with Cadillac's.

    yes, chipping ecus is often a big mistake. To correctly do so, a dyno and a five gas analyzer is needed to make sure it's programmed correctly for the engine set up. Find a guy with one of those and start there, a BIG reason I advise people against doing such mods.

    never trust anyone with a broken engine, the damage inside can be VERY large and you wouldn't know until it was stripped down and analyzed. And the test kit shows an internal engine problem, but it can be a blown head gasket, cracked head, warped block, lots of really expensive things. I personally would not buy it unless you were willing to do a full engine rebuild with that mileage on it.

  • @scottykilmer

    Hi Scotty kilmer I jus wanted to know is seafoam cleaner really good, or bad for some cars. I have a 94 Toyota celica and its been sitting out for about 4 years and I've been trying to get it back to its glory since I'm the new owner. I changed the oil a few times but it still comes out dark like black almost, I even changed my oil pan. I jus wanted to know if seafoam really works, and should I use it????? Thank you for taking the time to read this. P.s I was doing research about seafoam and seeing different ways people have done it but I wanted to ask you and anybody's opinion in this situation.

    I am not a seafoam fan, and if you change the oil regularly color means nothing, but if you're really worried, use a bottle of engine flush, then change the oil and filter to get rid of blackness
