- 3mm x .050" Tap (MAKE SURE TO GET A BOTTOMING TAP LIKE THIS) - amzn.to/3p0iYsV
- 3mm Pitch Screws (LENGTH IS CRUCIAL, USE THE SHORTEST YOU CAN - TYPICALLY .020" OR 3-4mm or LESS). You CAN use a standard equivalent just make sure you have the correct tap! - amzn.to/3F71qBk
- You also need a tool to turn the screw, this depends on which screw you buy. The most common tools are screw drivers, allen wrenches, and Torx bits. Commonly found at MANY hardware stores.

    The shorter your screws the less tapping you need to do.

    Amen! And some posts are EXTREMELY short such as the '55 BelAir Gasser from post and the '62 Chevy rear post. Almost impossible to drill and tap without running a screw all the way through. 🥺

    I use 2-56x1/8 works perfect on all of them, even the short gasser front post, of which I do all the time. 👍✌😁

    @@oldscoolcooldiecast1879 never, I drill a bit, hold my finger nail on the bit to mark the depth, pull it out and check it, then see how much deeper I can go, repeat until I feel I'm deep enough. The post on the rear of those JEEP gladiators I did is even shorter than the Gasser post, is crazy short. 👍🏻✌😁 now that I just told you all of that, I will probably drill all the way through my next one 🤣🤣🤣

    Very nicely executed brother, I used a 2/56 screws, but they are not pan head like yours which I really like. Great how to video brother

    Hey 713, its tough finding the allen screws online. I get mine at Ace Hardware, 3mm x.050", shortest they make! 👊😁👍

    I always use 2-56x1/8 and never have any problems with depth, of course I do alot of gassers and we know the front post is very short, the rear of the jeep gladiators are as well, very short indeed. 👍✌😁

    Being short is that a good thing easy to tap that’s my next step to get proper tools ⚒️ and screws so I can learn this procedure

    @@oldscoolcooldiecast1879 the front post on Gassers is very short, so 1/8 works perfect, dont have to drill as deep. And I actually use them on every single car I do without any problems. I do have some 3/16 in case I need longer though. ✌😁

    @@hewittzhotwheelz not sure if you new but some 55 gassers has the front post behind the front axles also if that helps I know it’s rlc cars thou not sure about premium it was switch several years back but not sure how far down the levels it went

    That is for the link on the tap and screws I can prolly use better screws because the hot wheels mini RC cars are plastic with screws under it that comes apart that why I wanna start putting my own mainline metal bodys on the rc engines thank you so much👍💯

    exactly where does one get the screws? And are there metal tapping screws? Not necessarily the self tapping one. i looked in ur Amazon list and didn't see any

    N2 the link should work for I believe a multi-length 3M screw kit. You can find the appropriate screws at Ace Hardware though! 😁👍

    I drilled pilot holes with 5/64 bit, but the 3MM-0.50 tap won't go into the hole. Do I need to drill a larger pilot hole in the post?

    I started using a 3/32" bit shortly after making this video, its a much better size to use to get the tap started. Apologies for the confusion! 😁👍

    I used the exact same tap that you showed but I just can't get it to grip. Do you need to make a 3mm pilot hole?

    Yeah you need to use your pilot bit you used to drill the center of the rivet and drill that up into the post about a 1/4" or just long enough for the screw to go in all the way. 👊😁👍

    The smallest one Ace Hardware has to offer. I believe its a Dewalt. You can find the tap at Ace Hardware, grab it and you'll be able to size up the base of it to the right handle. 👊😁👍

    You do not need to tap at all... drill the correct size hole then run the screw in a little at a time backing out periodically as you go... the screw threads will tap the soft pot metal easily.
