    @@HonestDiecast I have done alot of wheel swaps and detailing, but I never have actually painted anything. I like to remove tampo's detailing and wheel swaps, so I guess pretty soon. I found a few mainline cars today I differently am going to do some stuff to. I got the Ford mark4 and the H.w. c8, I I f'n love them!yellow sub and blue syclone are going to as well. I'll save a few for tomorrow's live chat, love detailing and chatting on a Wednesday! See you then.

    Hey Richard, painting masks you should be able to find some N95 3M's at Lowes or Home Depot. If you want a full respirator, you should be able to find them and the cartridges on Grainger or maybe Amazon! For decals, there are quite a few here on YT who do custom decals. Maybe try Rodney at RD Custom Diecast, Bruce at Zollo Diecast, or Jim Silva? 🤔

    2K is really straight forward, nice even coats just enough to cover from about a foot/foot and a half away. I usually let cure overnight though it can be sped up with a bit of heat. Hot dry sun for a few hours or about 185F for 10 min in the oven. 😁👍

    Have a question,I used to do paint and body for over 25 years and I'm getting into diecast because I can't do my old work anymore, question is what makes the paint stick to a completey slick surface like the polished ones?

  • @HonestDiecast

    @HonestDiecast

    Жыл бұрын

    Thats a great question and no doubt probably a head scratcher for an experienced painter. The key is an extremely clean surface prepped with 90%+ rubbing alcohol, acetone, or any type of hard cleaner/purifying agent or degreaser. Ive even used brake clean in the past, but acetone has worked best for me. I usually dunk the car in acetone for at least a few hours after polishing to eat away any polishing compound, skin oil, or anything that may prevent a good paint stick. Ill then clean the compound and impurities from the door jams, body lines, and grills with a pick and do a final wipedown with acetone again. Once the cleaning is done, you should never touch the surface again until its cleared on the final step. For instance Ill use gloves and place the car on my helping hands and they wont leave that until the clear is cured. Make sure the car is up to temp and warm again after cleaning with a liquid that will cool the body like acetone, alcohol, etc.. Spray your paint OVER AND UNDER the body (a lot of people miss this then encounter the paint chipping at the bottom). Once you're satisfied with the finish, you have two options: 1. Do your detail work and decals (if applicable) then do final clear OR 2. Clear the body, do detail work and decals, then clear again. Ive done the first option but maybe try the second on your first one and see how you like it. The clear is the only thing that protects the paint from chipping off, so definitely keep the car out of harms way and be VERY careful while handling. Hope this helps! 👊😁👍

    Thanks Sunnyboy! Its all eyes honestly, but the best way is to run your 3/32" in right down thr middle of the rivet as the pilot when you first start drilling. Go down as far as you can safely go, then use your big drill bit to snap the head off. I always try to prevent having to redrill once the rivet heads are snapped and the base is off. Sometimes Ill run the tap down the pilot before even taking the base off as well. Helps prevent the end of the post from mushrooming out and making the base a pain to snap back on. 😁👊

    Hey Kulture! So no undercoat/primer, if you want a spectra or RLC look you need to spray it direct on a brushed or polished body. I have done multiple light coats waiting 10 minutes between coats as directed and I have also shot fully only waiting a minute or two between coats. I find the second way to be a tad easier to distinguish the shade of color you want to achieve since dried paint under a fresh coat of transparent paint can be a bit deceiving at times. • @HonestDiecast

    Hey Sanjay, glad you found the vid useful! If you want a spectraflame finish, you cannot prime as you are essentially putting a transparent candy paint on a bare metal body to get the look. If you clean the body very well and keep it clean then you will have no issues. My recommendation is to clean with alcohol or acetone, spray the metalcast, then apply clear coat/detail/clear again. 👊😁👍

    StriveX, the best possible way to study would be to watch customizers of all levels and watch their methods and materials they use. We all feed ideas off eachother, it's not a competition so there's plenty of knowledge sharing to ingest. Hope that helps! 👊😁👍

    @strivexgamein4210 Its a self healing cutting mat. I use it to cut styrene, tubing, and whatever else (also to measure styrene lengths). Clean up is a bit easier with it as well as opposed to a bare table top

    why no primer? will it do paint chips because no primer?

  • @HonestDiecast

    @HonestDiecast

    8 ай бұрын

    No primer because thatll take away the "spectraflame" effect, thats why its crucial to clean the body well and prevent touching before clearcoat. You can also apply a few coats of clear after painting and detail ontop of the clear, then clear once more after details are added. 😁👍

  • @HonestDiecast

    @HonestDiecast

    2 жыл бұрын

    If you have adequate outdoor sun and temp, it can dry in probably 3-4hrs. If not, I would let it sit a day before doing anything. Make sure to try not to touch the paint until you clearcoat it. Use helping hands or something to hold it while you detail it! 😁👍

    @@HonestDiecast what if I don’t got clearcoat?

  • @HonestDiecast

    @HonestDiecast

    2 жыл бұрын

    Gotta get some my friend. With any paint, ESPECIALLY the metalcast you MUST clearcoat if you want it to last. Its especially important with metalcast because you're spraying very thin to achieve the spectraflame look. Also, you are spraying onto a bare metal body that is very smooth so it'll have a tougher time having something to stick to. You can pick up some Duplicolor 1K clear from O'Riellys as well which is mh go-to for clearcoat usually. I prefer 2K clear but its pretty spendy and has a short shelf life once you crack the hardener. 😁👊
