    Hi Was a high performance European surfer, however back injury put things on hold for about 5 years. After loads of hard work starting to do a turn or two. However boards don't look much different but they have progressed so much !!! Fins that's another story. Your reviews have been great help for me in board choice and save me money. Just want to say Thanks .

    Thank you for the tips. Another tip I got to help with bottom turning is to lean and touch the water with your hand. Once you improve your compression try touch water with forearm. Only applies to bigger surf and frontside mind. Back side use leading hand to touch. Small surf its more of a twisting motion rather than leaning.

    I also think that there’s a specific type of bottom turn for every specific top turn. Your doing a really deep separated from the wave in the flats type of bottom turn for that vertical hit. But for cutbacks sometimes the bottom turn isn’t as critical and you project more out into the shoulder rather than straight up into the lip. I feel this is what makes good surfing difficult...not just being able to bottom turn but choosing the right one

    Hey Noel! Great videos, these series are amazing! I loved the way you really structure the movement and go step by step, the thing about the amount of weight we should put in each leg was gold! Learning a lot. A question: Since is very difficult, while surfing to understand if we are doing things correctly what we should watch for when doing correct or incorrect frontside bottom turns? For example, should we fill some projection to the top of the wave, no speed loss, etc. it’s not an easy question, I know.. Thanks a lot and keep it up!

The CXTruck pivots a bit quicker and the C7 truck has more flow like surfing. The CX truck might be better for the parks.... it just depends how your skating the parks really.

    love this Vidoe! One question, do you put your back foot at the end of the pad right after you pop up? I surf small and mushy beach break most of the time and I don't know if I would lose speed when I do that. Thank you

  • @surfnshowreviews7777

    @surfnshowreviews7777

    If you want more precise turns then get that foot all the way back. If you are comfortable with moving your back foot around to gain speed and move it back quickly to do sharp turns then I suggest doing that especially in small mushy waves. If your foot is more forward on your traction pad and your turns feel sharp enough in the small waves then keep it the same to maximize speed. If you find yourself bogging through turns but surfing fast.... then you might want to adjust that a bit with moving your back foot further on the pad .

    I'm waiting for your frontside 360 tutorial. It's so counterintuitive to turn into the wave going frontside. I usually make the first 180 by releasing my skegs and then flattening my board out again, but then my skegs usually don't re-engage into the wave and the wave goes under me.

    Great instructional video, Noel! Do you put your back foot all the way back on the tail pad on the takeoff or adjust it before hitting your turns? I tend to be front footed on the takeoff and been struggling with moving my back foot back far enough to hit those quick beach break sections that jump out at you right after the takeoff. Also, when taking off, does your back foot land on the board first or your front foot, or both at the same time? I wish you can talk a bit about the movements/ adjustments you do in between turns down at the bottom to maintain speed and drive (movements at 5:29' before compressing into the bottom turn). Double pump bottom turn, maybe?

  • @surfnshowreviews7777

    Yuno mi I usually adjust my footing to the need of the wave or maneuver I want to do. If the wave is fast from take off then my back foot is up in front of my traction pad then I move it back to hit the turns. If the wave is slower.... then I will drop in with my foot back all the way to hit a solid bottom turn. Not sure about which one of my feet hits the board first. I think they hit at the same time. I will pay more attention to that next time I paddle out.

    I think it would be great.... I would practice on a Carver for understanding. One thing is knowing what’s right.... it’s another thing to feel it and make it a habit. Use a Surfskate to feel and practice proper technique then translate that in the water even if you skate Natural and Surf Goofy Footed. Leading to shift your weight from front to back will translate well. The mind is powerful and it will adjust in my opinion.

    Back arm must be forward(speed generating) when going down the wave, so you can(must) throw it back(from forward position) when doing the bottom turn thus increasing bottom turn projection. Then when you reach the lip you can(must) throw your back arm front again, powering your turn and facilitating the tail pivoting in the lip. Back arm proper use can better your surfing like no other thing. So, get up on the board, put your back arm forward until you reach the base of the wave, pedal energize, throw your back arm back(opening your chest) to do the bottom, then throw it back front to help pivot your tail in the lip. this is surfing. Backside surfing is right the opposite.

    Never noticed this but you don't have a backside, do you? You take off facing the wave on both sides. Is that true?
