Those who are short on time, the only two things mentioned in this video: 1. Use Rapid Review Biochemistry to study biochemistry (for boards) 2. Study class notes and lecture (stuff professor said) notes to pass Biochemistry for school No offense DocOssareh! You still the best! =) Mwah!

Resurrects memories. I still fail to understand why medical schools insist on wasting precious student time with biochemistry courses. It is of virtually no value whatever in the practice of medicine or surgery. Do I speak with any authority on the matter? I think so; I'm certified by three boards.

@@Opstry Well, I do know what I'm talking about. Medical school time is very precious and should never be wasted. Studying biochem. is a waste of time, as is embryology. Dissecting a cadaver in the first year is suboptimal as well and should be reserved for and coupled with junior and senior surgery. Combining gross anatomy with surgical technique under both depts. and correlative radiologic/CT description prove very useful.

@@wholeNwon I finished top of my class in pharmacology, physiology, pathophysiology and internal medicine without any knowledge of biochem, of course some little pathways are important but all you need to know is that in some tissue, substrate A is turned into B by enzyme C if C is not there then bla bla clinical aspects! never did I have a problem understanding anything, in pharmacology some receptors are important but not the WHOLE FREAKIN CASCADE WITH COFACTORS and shuttles and adaptor molecules. in no way did I ever realize why I need to know the chemical formulas, which group attacks another group, and which chemical bonds are highest in energy. sorry this is why we have scientists, bioengineers, pharmacists and etc. its just medical student abuse. because let's face it, we are not idiots and if we had the time and training we would've learned it, but when you have one million and other stuff to memorise yes its a total waste of time and effort. speaking as a person that was forced to do biochem later in med school due to some beaurocracy stuff. worse month of my student life.

@@kalishnikov27642 Amen! I wish you all the best. Incidentally, I attended a very old and very traditional medical school. Even they continually adjusted the curriculum. In my years, biochem. and other virtually useless things were truncated to a few lectures. When we took the National Board exams, ours was the highest scoring class in the country. One of my lab partners was the highest scoring individual. The class before ours was highest scoring, too. The one before them was #2, etc.

Magnificent...and I'm not even a medical student! Since the seventies when I watched medical students at the University of Illinois tearing out their hair trying to figure out a sane and balanced approach to learning all that med school threw at them, I have always felt that there must be an intelligent approach to med school study that those brilliant kids were never exposed to. I was right! These videos will not erase all the hard work you have to put in acquiring knowledge. They reveal a path

I didn't know along with the information that professors give you, you also read a separate review book? I'm taking undergrad biochem next semester and is there a particular weird study routine you had like studying before the semester started? (My friend did that and he got great scores). If I was in med school I would just follow what the professors give and not put any extra information on myself, yet again I'm not an A+ student

+William Byas While biochemistry does require a lot of memorization, memorization is pretty passive studying and the foundation of biochem depends on chemistry, o-chem, and biology. When you do many questions, you get to stretch your mind and see how everything applies in different scenarios. Memorizing is only a small part of biochem; the key is to ask yourself continuously "why does this matter" or "why does this step/mechanism occur" as you study because you'll discover the basics of chemistry and o-chem are driving forces in the logic of biochemistry.

HI Feilisha Almas, i totally agree. always ask how, why, what if and make it relate to real life "how does this work in the body? why does the body do when this happens?
