I have a fender strat and an older cheap rock jam one. Since I got my fender, I play it all the time. I picked up my old one and started playing it the other day and haven't picked it up since because the action is so high. I don't know if it was always that high. Do you know how I can reduce it?

Hi Joe To deal with a high string action on a guitar: Adjust the truss rod: Consult a professional to properly adjust the truss rod and control the neck relief. Lower the bridge/saddle: If adjustable, lower the saddle slightly to reduce the string height, but be cautious not to affect the intonation. File the nut slots: Have a skilled technician file the nut slots to the proper depth to lower the action at the nut. Use lighter gauge strings: Switching to lighter strings can reduce neck tension and make it easier to achieve a lower action. i can’t find the screw hole on my new acoustic. i looked in the hole, it’s not there. i looked by the tuning knobs, it isn’t there either. where else could it be?

is it a nylon string guitar? they don't have truss rods

I have an Eko Ranger Folk made in the mid '60s - would this work on it or not?

Long as the structure of the same with pin peg , it should work, I think

Don’t loosen your strings because the tension of your string will effect the bow of your neck. Adjust the truss rod under the tension of your strings in tune.

@@brianbianchi8028 if your guitar's neck is convex and you want to straighten it while it's still in tune, then the tension will become harder. That's why there's a chance that the bridge might break apart.

​@@tempeight Most guitar bridges can handle enough tension to be tuned up a full step. You're chancing stripping the truss rod or possibly even breaking it instead of causing damage to the bridge.

BTW .. truss rods are not for adjusting more than a few thousands of string height.

This is wrong. The truss rod is used to give the neck the proper amount of relief based on the guage of strings you use. The action (height of the strings) is then adjusted INDEPENDANTLY of the relief set into the neck via the truss rod. DO NOT TIGHTEN YOUR TRUSS ROD TO LOWER YOUR ACTION. YOU WILL EVENTUALLY BREAK YOUR GUITAR

Adjusting the truss rod will have an effect on the string height' don't know what you're talking about independently? This is an acoustic guitar' it doesn't have individual saddles like an electric' to lower the string height on an acoustic guitar' you have to take material off the bottom of the saddle ' which lowers all the strings at one time since the top of the saddle is already radiused to match the fretboard.

@@BryanClark-gk6ie of course adjusting the truss rod has an effect on action. But you don't adjust the truss rod to make action adjustments. That's what I mean by independently. You get the relief you want with the truss rod and the action you want down at the saddle

If my truss rod is on the headstock will the clockwise and anti clock still work the same

Depends which way you’re facing. If you’re facing the headstock then clockwise will loosen the neck and counterclockwise will tighten. If you’re facing the body of the guitar it will be vice versa

I think you need the right size of truss rod wrench, as the rod would be deeper inside, buy Guitar Truss Rod in range sizes.
