How to step-by-step | T-TEST in Google Sheets | UX Method Mondays | Zero to UX

Today we go over the T Test, or Student’s t-test, for statistical significance in UX research. We use this to compare the averages of TWO samples. A basic quantitative UX research method.
I show you step-by-step using Google Sheets on how to do the t-test and find your significant other: the p-value. Download the link for free and follow along!
docs.google.co...
The t-test is an inferential statistical method with 3 types: paired samples (aka dependent samples, aka repeated measures), unpaired samples (aka independent samples), or one-samples t-test.
Enjoy!
Don't forget to comment what you think the “t” in t-test means!
Mad love, PEACE!!

Hello Kevin, I find your video to be really helpful, so thanks for all your knowledge! However, I struggle to find a use case where I would want to know if the averages are reliably different. Could you please point out examples from your own work experience where you conducted this research method and which questions you wanted to answer with that? Also what would have been the consequences if the averages were reliably different and if they were not? That would be incredibly helpful! (:

It’s for the t distribution, but I believe it’s called as such as part of a pen name of William Seally Gosset, which was designed for beer quality control. But to be published without violating trade secrets was published under a pseudoname

@kevinliang What do you do if your p value is >.05? Can you just increase the sample size instead of scratching your whole trial?

  • @zerotoux

    @zerotoux

    2 жыл бұрын

Great question, Anthony!!! So if we manipulate a sample to GET 0.05, you can try to investigate = just look at the sample again, look for possible outliers to remove (and do ttest with unequal variances) and recalculate ORRR you can use a different alpha level (like 0.1 instead of 0.05), depending on your desired confidence level and risk ORRRRRR simply report that your p-value was higher than 0.05!! We can't and shouldn't manipulate data to get what we want. Data will show what the data will show :)

Great Video! I'm a fellow psychology student wanting to become a UX researcher. I always wanted to know what statistical program UX researchers mainly use???? SPSS, R, Python, Google Sheets? I can use SPSS but was thinking of learning how to use R program as well. Curious on what is the most commonly used program in UX research when conducting studies.

UXRs use an amalgam of different tools. I know some who use R, some use SPSS, some Sheets, and some don't use any. It really doesn't matter what you use as long as you can accomplish what you need to do and it's really up to choice which you're most comfortable with. Qual UXRs don't use as much stats programs. Quant folks tend to use all kinds.

  • @zerotoux

I'm not sure I understand. When you calculate the ttest, it returns the p-value, which is the probability Do you mean z-score?

@@zerotoux if I remember correctly there is a T test value capital T and I want to know if there is a way to calculate it.

  • @paulclifford6941

Yes, there is a T.INV function that works back from the p value and gives you the t-score. It would be better if TTEST returned both values, but alas and alack, it does not. The T.INV function requires only the p-value and the degrees of freedom. Depending on whether the you specified one-tailed or two-tailed when you used the TTEST you may have to multiply or divide the p-value by 2 before plugging it into the T.INV function.

The "T" does not stand for anything, as far as I was taught in my psych program- It was just a simple name given to the ratio. Thanks for the great videos.
