Hm motivation seems like a huge system 🤔 - poor diet - poor sleep - nevative environment - lack of self efficacy/confidence - fear of failure - perfectionism Can also impact motivation

so the main principle is to maximize intrinsic motivators while using extrinsic motivators as boosters? But how can you deal with demotivators? is just adding more intrinsic ones the only way or am I wrong

The one question I have: What if one can't find a good intrinsic motivation or a certain subject. Yes, a sense of accomplishment can be nice, but sometimes there are courses that are so far away from your actual interest, even though the study is the right one, that it is very hard to find any intrinsic motivation apart from 'I don't want to do it anymore'.

Maybe misunderstood you, but it is also very possible for an extrinsically motivated activity to become intrinsically motivated over time. This could include initially exercising for health benefits but then gradually doing so simply for the enjoyment you derive from it.

Here the activity might be same...just like you said..the act of excercising. But the type of motivation changes..the health benefits will be the extrinsic motivator and the enjoyment is your intrinsic motivator. It's always good to have the intrinsic motivator along with an extrinsic motivator, which like Jennifer said will up your motivation. I hope that it makes sense

00:00 Motivation and progress 00:22 Questions 00:32 Peaks and valleys 00:45 Blaiming 00:53 Complex phenomena 01:01 'Willing' or will power rarely work 01:18 Focus on factors 'influencing' motivation 01:32 In this video 01:46 3 things to work on 02:07 You can control factors which result in motivation 02:27 Not a musle - a symptom 02:53 Factors of lack: time, exhaustion, intimidation 03:51 Extrinsic motivation - tangible rewards. Inconsistent. 05:15 Intrinsic motivation - growth - interest - satisfasction 05:45 Effect - enjoyment from the process 06:44 Factors of IM: curiousity, challenge, satisfaction 07:11 IM over EM (which is bonus) 08:09 Values are a source of IM 08:35 Key to IM: align your goals and actions with values 11:14 You can't optimalise misaligned values and prorities 11:37 TAKE-AWAYS IM, Values, rewards, resilience (?) My score for this videos: 4/10 disclaimer: Yes, my evaluation comes from my preferences and comprehension of the topic. Explanation: It's fast food type of content. Inform you what is happening on surface level. It's almost trivial. No references, not real explanations, no procedures proposed. I give higher score that 2 only because of central idea and effort putted into creation of nice visual package. Here, you don't get education. It can direct you to IM which is good but you really don't get smarter after watching it but you might feel smarter because a low bar for thinking (we mistake fluency of our comprehension with quality of the content).

@@PeterIntrovert She gives explanations on what types of intrinsic motivators there are, why we should rely more on intrinsic motivators, and a procedure to identify these types of motivators. She also explains why we should not rely on external motivators such as external validation, money and status. These were the only 3 critisisms you had on the video you said she did not provide, which even you previously had time-stamped where she actually provided this information. The point of the video is not supposed to be an in-depth academic analysis, it seems rather as a useful primer on motivation, especially for those looking to identify and leverage intrinsic motivators in their studies. It's always valuable to have different levels of content available. Not everything has to be deeply analytical with a bunch of scientific references to be educational or beneficial. This is a 13 minute video, not a 3 month course. Why do you expect a book of knowledge from this? The fact that intrinsic motivators are more long-term viable than extrinsic motivators is already assumed as common understanding for this video.

@@whssavy It's depend of what you mean by my expectation. This is classic filler. Brief description of IM, I wouldn't call it explanation. From the filler I don't expect more, from educational materials - yes, I have higher standards. Take away fancy structure and graphics and you end up with trivial thing. 13 min isn't a lot but it can be done in 2-3min without losing anything. That's my opinion and you can have yours. It's alright.
