My issue with studying is more related to revision (how to retrieve). I`ve done this thought processing (thanks, by the way =D) and i`ve come across a conclusion that the main issue is how to revise everything that I`m studying.

I suggest trying out this approach: Try creating your own exam. Each question should check your understanding of some piece of knowledge and also (important) if you see connections to others pieces of knowledge. This task would be easier if you have created mindmap - then you just look at it and select a piece of knowledge that you want to revise later (I recommend creating exam right after completing study seasion with mindmap). Also, don't be afraid of revealing some information in your question, don't be extremist :) The quality of your revision is directly connected to quality of your questions. It would be best also if these questions would occur in real-world situation. For example - imagine that you are studying medicine to be a doctor. The best question that you could create for your exam would be the same as your patient or fellow doctor would ask (try imagine diffrent situations for better view). In short - create questions that checks your knowledge and would be asked in real-world scenario. Such questions would be more relevant, important, engaging and thus - revision should approve (but in the end, it all depends on you! Don't be afraid of abonding this method if it doesn't work for you) :D How often you should make revision with this exam? When you feel it would be a good time :)

what i do is, i take a sticky note and write all the sub headings of the chapter on it. Close the book, take the post it and one by one pretend to explain it to my imaginative class. And in my imagination only they ask me questions about the screwy/ difficult parts or sometimes give me examples or answers to questions i ask (which are from my head only) idk if it's weird for other people. But works wonders for me. And after my 3rd revision, I do pyqs and practice test.

I just realized, while I get how this works for studying and talk about with students, I've never applied this to me learning common sense and social common sense, etiquette and manners. I'm probably copying others wrong.

Hi, the problem i have now is,when i am studying i encounter stuffs like having to memorize lets say certain signs and symptoms or clinical manifestations in certain diseases. For this i have i tried studying using mindmaps but it feels like route memorization. Making connections for this is literally so time consuming and so common it get intervenes with everything. Basically i am always confused. Is there anything wrong that i am doing. And also can you suggest better ways to recall facts.

In my opinion, you are focusing too much on connections. It's like you would say "I ABSOLUTELY must to find as much connections as possible, because this is the only way to memorise". Instead, you should let connections come naturally. I would go as far as to say that CONNECTIONS ARE BYPRODUCTS of asking right question. Unfortunately, I'm not studying medicene so can't really say how things look like in your field, but in spite of that, here's some example: Let's say you have certain disease. You study how this disease works and what are symptomps of it. To this point, you probably connected this disease with every symptom and that's good. Now, you study two more diseases and theirs symptomps. You probably connect every disease with its corresponding symptops and that's good. What's more, it happens that there are some symptomps that are the same for, let's say, 2 diseases, so you connected them in your mindmap. That's good and all, but in your opinion there is too little connections and you can't really figure out more connections after 5 minutes of thinking.. For me, that's just a sign that there isn't really any more connections at this moment. Every connections that you create can be as well made up for the sake of "creating more connections". But how to make more connections (because, of course, we need them more to better remember)? My solution to this problem is asking question "Where else is a given topic mentioned?" By this I mean that you should go outside of diseases and theirs symptomps. Go to other medicine's topic and study it, looking for mentions about your disease and its sympots. Thanks to that, there should be a good chance, that you will find new connection (without focusing too much or thinking too long about finding it). It will be like "Hey, the symptomps that I read earlier about occured in this topic and bear some meaning, so they are connected!". The main point of this example is to highlight that connections are byproduct of asking questions and you shouldn't spend too much time on finding connections. Let them come naturally. As for recalling, I usually try to predict/imagine real-life scenario, where someone or me would ask question concerning these facts. Than I write these question down and try to answer them (ideally I do it once in a week or when I fell like it). By doing so, I'm making these facts more relevant to me and thus - easier to memorize and recall.

IQ is why you dont mindlessly copy them. You can have the laziest person in the class get a 100% on the class with them doing bare minimum due to IQ that's the reality.

my question is if the study techniques that toppers uses is ineffective as most student uses and fails how does toppers do really well even if the use those INAFFECTIVE revision techniques?

They may have inherently good deep processing, or behind closed doors they spend a lot of time in learning and revising such that the time spent makes up for the poor techniques (which is inefficient)

Like lucid said, top students often make up for bad techniques with deeper processing. This is something very hard to measure, which also makes research on effective techniques inconsistent. But bassically they will think about stuff in different ways as they study. Usually relationships and connecting dots to stuff they already know, which in turn makes things more memorable for them.

If I already have the ICS course, would I still need to follow this?

Hey @haleythompson1668, practice papers are materials that mimic the actual exam format and experience. This is usually in the form of doing past papers (previous exam papers).

my genius friend start study for the exam at d-4, but only watch all the lecture videos and didn't do anything afterward nothing like writing someting but he always ace the exams. im kinda jealous of him. i thinks he does the "writing" part to comprehence the lecture in their mind.
