How to Start Your Golf Swing - Don't Use a Takeaway!

Спорт

Have you ever practised your takeaway in the golf swing? If so you might have prevented a more natural method of swinging the golf club. If you initiate the golf swing with a pre rehearsed takeaway, then you might be then reacting to a tensioning in your swing rather than swinging the golf club freely.

In America : 67 years old . In the last 6 years I have had quad heart bypass . Bypass on left hip , Prostate Cancer, Covid the first strain and broken 3 ribs during covid . I bought the GRF Board and started using it just a month ago. I was swinging a driver 80 MPH . Now it's averaging 99 MPH and I have had some hits recorded at 101-102 mph. It seems the whole secret to the swing is getting to the left side while you are still swinging back. *I have made all these gains* Yet when I watch my swing on video I still don't have the weight shift mastered . So I would hope to get better as my timing gets better . Thanks Marcus .

So true, momentum. That's the one thing l noticed is that when there's good momentum in my back swing transition to down swing it's a lot of power through the ball.

Absolutely true. Had the surgery and just been given the green light to start playing again Marcus. I’m buzzing mate. Can’t wait to get back out playing.

What you say is right on. Since we hit a stationery ball in golf, it is easy to forget about using our natural athleticism to swing the club. I for one worried a long time about making the right movements which created tension instead of using the weight of the club and gravity to create a natural swing arc around the body. For a number of years I have been a follower of Paul Wilson who stresses using body momentum and not the arms to swing the club.

I’ve been the same. My big improvement has come with just accepting where my body will move as I try to play a shot, with a shape, to my target. What has also helped is not trying to muscle everything. I just focus on flowing.

Will you guy’s ever come to Australia ? More precisely Brisbane…would love more than anything to get a lesson or two from Marcus I’m an ex scratch marker from 20 years ago I have come perilously close to giving up but I love the game too much and believe if you could help me with my sequence I could actually play better than ever.

Okay but how do you start the swing without placing the club 2 ft ahead of the ball?

You don't, you forward press the handle with a gentle weight shift forward to then go back. I placed the club behind the ball in the exercise. Just use the weight shift you felt in the step drill 👍
