Is this spoon good for deep open water? 30,40+ feet? Or not so much because of the backwards movement?

A damn spoon can be deadly I know that. But man I can't catch a bass on one to save my soul. I can catch em on the little spoons around docks. Or dropping one down in school of fish. But those bigger then 3 inches nah can't do it. Don't know why. Can't get a bite on one. And I'm fishing it for suspended fish that won't really bite nothing else. I've hooked few stripers on em. But far as bass goes can't get it done. I have all shapes and sizes and colors and weights but shit they just watch it go right under em and watch it pop back up and fall back down I guess cuz I've studied this shit for hours. Watched this video 9 times probably. But I guess my bass ain't read the books or watched the videos or something. Cuz they avoid that piece of metal like the plague or something.
