@@InakaAdventure What I am really missing is a comprehensive guide to all of japan, that will showcase it's different regions, and what to expect / do in each of them. For example: - Is it worth going to Hokkaido, if so, what for? - Is it worth going all the way south, if so, what for? Getting this information from one source would be tremendously helpful to grasp at one glance what one wants to see, or is maybe less interested in. It took me some hours of research to figure out that, while I will be going to japan for 5 weeks, I will just travel from tokyo to osaka, with some nature on the way, because these places alone have so much to offer.

Not very optimal at all. Day 2 instead Kinkaku-ji, go to Heian Shrine and gardens(mentioned), which is in the area. Day 3 start at Kinkaku-ji, then walk or take the 59 bus to Ryoan-ji and a very short walk is Ninna-ji which has a lot of cool hiking paths in the area if your into that. From Ninna-ji there a Randen(street car) station Omuro-ninnaji and take the train "To Katabiranotsuji Station", transfer at Katabiranotsu station to Arashiyama. Not only does the Randen take you to the Kimono Forest at Arashiyama Randen station, it also goes through the Cherry Blossom tunnel right after Utano station(seasonal). Or do the reverse if you want to check out Arashiyama in the morning when it is not as busy.

The street is really popular with tourists and too many people were taking photos that were disrupting the flow of business, chasing gaisha around while they were trying to work, since its a private street they implemented a $100 fine for photography, I believe they changed it because it was driving too many tourists away but not sure.

I’m blown away. I’m going to Japan for three weeks in September/October. The only thing I have booked in Japan so far is a temple stay in Koyasan. I was thinking of staying 8 nights in Tokyo and then 8 nights in Kyoto with Koyasan in between the nights in Kyoto. I’ll then finish with 2 nights in Tokyo in case I want to get a few things to bring back home with me. I chose these two cities as a base to do day trips from such as Osaka, Mt Takao, Fuji, Nikko, Nara, Hiroshima. Would you recommend this approach or stay in other cities over night? And would you do more time in Kyoto and few in Tokyo?

Since you're traveling at that time you can probably take advantage of the old JR Pass pricing before it increases from October, you can check out my video on rail passs for that: kzread.info/dash/bejne/q3misNOSZtafc84.html Also you could check out my 2 weeks in Japan video for ideas kzread.info/dash/bejne/l6ZnuZailbHWh5M.html personally for me 8 nights in Tokyo is too much, but I dont really like cities. BIG WORD OF WARNING on day 3 if you are heading to arashiyama bamboo forest make sure to reserve your seat if you plan to go for the sagano railway, I'm not sure if you can reserve it online but make your way there first thing, trains runs on an hourly basis and if you go in groups then there's a chance that you'll be on different carriages. I wish this video mentioned it because after my walk around the forest I was looking forward to the ride just to find out that the next available train was in 2 hours :/
