How to speak Spanish without talking to people | Introvert Tips | Spanish Listening Practice

How to begin speaking Spanish without talking to people | Introvert tips | Spanish Listening Practice
If you are learning Spanish, but you feel like you’re not ready for Spanish conversations, you will want to know how to learn Spanish on your own and develop speaking skills without having to speak to people. Most of my language learning takes place without people and it’s important to know how to learn a language on your own, only involving other people when you are ready and/or when it's necessary. Understanding how to study languages independently is not only helpful for introverts, but rather for all of those seeking to get a firm grasp of the basics, pronunciation, and grammatical structure of the foreign language before having their first conversations. If you want to be able to reach a point of meaningful conversation and skip the Spanish small talk phase, you will want to take careful note of these language learning and study tips.

Loved it! You are perfect for beginners like me (3 months of Spanish only). I could listen to you for hours! One suggestion: please don't use ANY English, except subtitles of course: some of us are not native English speakers (I'm Polish) and when I listen to your Spanish it feels like I'm in a dream, and if you suddenly say "input" or "flashcard" it forces me to switch back to English, and this might be counterproductive. Otherwise, keep teaching us, I'm so happy I found your channel today !

Thanks so much for the lovely comment! The words, "input", "flashcards", and "shadowing" are used by Spanish teachers (native ones as well) more often than the Spanish equivalent because there either isn't a great Spanish equivalent or the English word has been adopted and is more easily understood. If you look up the Spanish translation for "flashcard" in word reference, for example, you will find, "flashcard" along with some other options. "Input" in this language context is translated "input" in 90% of the Spanish articles that I've read. So don't worry. These are not random interjections of English. You can use them in Spanish as well. 😁

I speak Portuguese, and your accent is so clear that I understand 90 per cent of what you are saying even though only studied Spanish for a while. My problem is more separate the two at the moment. I live in Portugal and my husband is Brazilian and we only speak Portuguese at home. Actually being able to see the subtitles makes me more aware of the differences, and help me process what I am learning. I'm worried that I will mix the languages together. In a normal day, I speak three languages: Swedish, English and Portuguese. My work and my home life requires it, so starting to think in Spanish is out of the question, because I during one day think in all three, and sometimes that causes word salad. At the beginning when I started learning Portuguese I wrote a lot. Threw myself into discussions on Facebook. It was harder to understand when listening, so I watched Brazilian telenovelas and listened to a lot of music. I love Latin American music, so it is motivating me a lot to learn. I'm sure I will continue with this. Very good video. I really like that you use subtitles in Spanish and English to aid in learning.

It really is incredible how similar Portuguese and Spanish are. I remember having a conversation with a lady who spoke only Portuguese and I would respond in Spanish and we understood each other fine. Haha. Yes, I think that reading and writing does help a lot to separate languages in your head that are similar. That's been the case for me with French.

hola Erica, muy buenos consejos y excelente español. Shadowing es un anglicismo, es decir que fue adoptada del idioma inglés y significa ensombrecer o sombrear (cubrir de sombra algo), se usa esta palabra porque la técnica consiste en repetir lo que otra persona dice en tiempo real, tú la sigues. Shadowing viene de shadow ("sombra" para los hispanohablantes).

@@EricaRayLanguage Actually no. The reason being that I copy and paste the transcription, remove all the clock times and finally turn it to a book - which I can read and follow with ease and happily - Thanks anyway Erica xx

Hoollaaa, currently I’m learning at school, don’t really speak a lot but would like to improve it at home. What about using the words I’ve learned to create sentences while speaking out loud, then maybe writing it, so a native could correct it?

If I were to practice speak, write, then get the sentences corrected, is practicing helping to prepare me to feel a little more confident when I want to have conversations without too much preparation?

It is reading or listening material that is a bit above your current level so it still has new words for you to learn but you are able to follow along with the overall idea of the material, so it's comprehensible to you.

Thanks for the question. My audience asked for more videos in Spanish and I agree with them 100%! Listening in an immersive setting is the best way to learn. It's how I learned (and how most do who learn a second language well). I had no teacher explaining things in English. There are subtitles if you need help. :)
