Spanish with Erica Ray

Spanish with Erica Ray

Hi! I'm Erica Ray Limones, certified language coach and Spanish teacher. I'm here to help you finally master the Spanish language with strategies that work and through the power of authentic conversations and stories.

I learned fluent Spanish while still in The States, without studying it in college and long before stepping foot abroad, and I know that you can too! Years later, when I moved to Mexico, the integration process was not nearly as challenging as it would have been if the language had been a hurdle.

I've been working professionally with the Spanish language since 2008 (as a medical interpreter, translator, teacher, and language coach).

Learning Spanish changed my life for the better, both personally and professionally, and I'm here to share this amazing experience I've received with you so that you can change your life too.

I loved the quiz and the picture questions at the end! This was so comprehensive. Me favorita estación es el verano, por qué me cumpleaños es en julio. Me gusta cuando hace sol. Cuando hace buen tiempo, ando con mi perro.

From what I know about the comprehensible input approach, it contains a very important point: while consuming the comprehensible input, you should WAIT for an URGE to use the target language for output. This is the criterion when you should begin trying to generate the output. Not when a teacher tells you to, not when a textbook invites you to do exercises... you wait, then you feel the urge, then you start outputting. Another option is when you NEED or HAVE to do the output due to external circumstances) that works too.

I’ve been using Duolingo for a year. It has helped a lot but not with the real world speaking conversations in which I lack. Is Duolingo considered a structured self study program?

I definitely think that language learning is indeed multiple approaches input/output. As a failed student of elementary Spanish immersion I could not pick up the language just hearing the teacher all day or learning singular vocabulary words after years of input only. I definitely think some contextual grammar instruction (in English) then practicing small word groups with verbs goes a long way. I went from completely overwhelmed and tuning out Spanish after I discovered this and changed my approach from trying to master all the rules before speaking to just embracing my broken 4 year old Spanish and learning new inputs as I go

4:12 How do you do this? Don't you have to listen to what they say? And how can you immediately start after they speak? Aren't some words of english like later on in the sentence that come first in a spanish sentence? Sorry if my english is bad.

¡Eres una maestra increíble! He estado viendo tus vídeos estos últimos días, sin parar. Me encanta tu método de enseñanza. Esto es lo que he estado necesitando. Llevo años aprendiendo español por mi cuenta. Mi problema es entenderlo cuando la gente hablan demasiado rápido. Tus videos son los que me ayudarán a pasar al siguiente nivel. Acabo de empezar a conectarme con una congregación en español por Zoom aunque estoy en inglés. Eso también es útil. Sigan con el buen trabajo.
